The mandamus case filed at the In-
stance of certain taxpayers of Barm
Well oounty against the County Treas-
hrer was again up for argument before
Judge Aldrich at chambers bn Satur-
day, the 25th iottaut. After bearing
the return of the County Treasurer
presented'by Nr. Robert Aldrich, and
argument by Jud^e,Maher on behalf
of the County Commissioners, and by
Mr. & M. Thompson on behalf of tho
taxpayers, his Honor ruled that tho
recent act of the General Assembly
to faeilitste the collection of taxes ”
restrained him from isaoing the writ
of mandamus, and that the injunction,
^as an incident of that wrtt,' must
dissolved ; and forther, that is no vie#
of the case can said bills be tendered

We understand that the relators in
Charleston have in every case paid up
their taxes in current foods and com-
meoeod proceedings under the provis

Dick Pope, a notorious colored des
perado of Edgt-fleld county, was cap
tured on Thursday lost on Capt. Jud-
eon Brodle’a place, iu Aiken county.
Borne years ago Pope captured a col
ored brother, carried him into the
woods, tied him securely to a tree and
commenced to shoot him with bird
shot. He continued this amusement
until he had fired some eight or ten
shoto. His victim died and Pope, with
cool effrontery, attended his funeral
the next day. He was arrested, tried,
convicted of manslaughter and sent
to the penitentiary. After an impri
sonment of three years and nine
months be was pardoned by Governor
Moses just before the election. Some
time last year he killed a second man,
was at rested In November, but escaped.
In his flight he r< oelved n bail In the
posterior part of bis thigh, which
ganged upwards, and eatne out in the
fronFof bis body. Although just re
covering from the wound, Pope resist
ed arrest desperately, but was finally
overpowered and carried to jail.
