friends to the lower portion of this
oouoty yesterday, the mule that Gov.
Hampton was riding became frighten
ed aod, tbs bridle breaking, the Gov
ernor leaped from the saddle, receiv
ing severe injuries In bis fall. His
right leg was broken tn two places be
low the koee with tbe bones protru
ding, end the ankle Is also badly in
jured.
He was brought to Columbia this
moretbg and is now lying at home.
The prospect is that he will be con
fined to his bed for a long period.

ed for a deer hunt in the Watefee

dezvous, Governor Hampton, next
morning^ (Thursday) exchanged bis
horse tor a young half-broken mule,
and proceeded alone towards tbe place
where he expected to Join the other
members of bis petty. Just before
reaching there, however, the pack of
hounds, already on hot soent, passed
