Several complaints have reached us
of the disappointment experienced by
some of oor volunteer calvary com

The order was countermanded without

the same will not occur again.

A Wonderful 51 h n.
- Our offic® was vislu-il last Friday by
Dr. (?) JSzckiel Thomas, a colored man.
He is of medium size, but remarkably
muscular. 8tpip.plpg j himself to the
waist, he exhibited to a select circle of
gentlemen his power of arresting, at
will, the pulsation of the heart and
the arterjes at both wrists. He also
could, apparently, throw the heart to
either groin or right side of the chest,
where it could be plainly felt, whilst
it, at tbe same time, was as conspicu
ously absent ah its natural seat. •
When we. refject that the heart is
normally separated from the bowels
by a muscular wall (the diaphragm);
that it has arterial and venous tubes
permeating the lungs and binding i,t
to. them ; that by its pericardium it ia
Attached to the cervioal fascia of the

Thk Naticxa.l Scourge—It is esti
mated that the annua! damages caused
by the ravages of ir^ieets and ! worms
exceed $150,000,000 in the United
States alone. . Truly sn enormous loss 1
Yet it sinks into insipnifleance when
compared with the ravages of that
more terrible scourge, consumption,
which annually sweeps hundreds of
thousands of human eoule into eter
nity. The causes of consumption are
various, depending in every Instance
for the development of the disease
upon the scrofulous diathesis, or tem
perament, of‘The vlotirn. Thus the
same eauae which will produce in one
person an attack of acute disease or a
fditrht nervous prostration, will engen
der consumption in a person of scrofu
lous habit. That consumption can be
cured by proper treatment will be
readily perceived when tb« exact, na
ture of the disease is understood, viz:
the hcmmulatlon and deposition of
scrofulous matter (tubercles) in the
lungs. Obviously, the principal reme
dies required are (1) a powerful altera
tive, or blood-purifier,-to arrest the ac
cumulations and also cleanse the blood
of the scrofulous matter, and (2) a
mM4cathartic to expel tbe diseased
matter from the Hystera. This course
of treatment, in conjunction with a
strict hygienic regime, has prdved the
most successful method of curing this
disease. Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical
Discovery and pleasant Purgative Pel
lets are the best alterative and cathar
tic remedies before the public, and
have been alone used in thousands of
cases of consumption with fhe most
marked efficacy. Dr. Pierce’s Invalids’
Hotel, at Buffalo, N. Y., affords special
and unequaled advantages to con
sumptives, not only possessing the
best medival aqd hygienic means of VI
treatment, buV having the essential ad- iVl
vantage of being situated In a climate
where tbe inhabltanta are notably free
from this disease. 4
