underwent an emergency operation in
a Columbia hospital Monday night
for an acute attack of appendicitis.
Reports from the hospital Tuesday
said that she was recovering nicely.

STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA,’’approved April 22, 1937, which be
came effective June 30, 1937, all barbers, apprentices, and students
in South Carolina are required to obtain a registration certificate
from the South Carolina State Board of Examiners, located at 17-
18 Sylvan Building, Columbia, South Carolina. The Act has been a
law of the State since June 30, 1937, and it becomes necessary to set
a dead-line after which rigid enforcement will be required.
You are hereby notified that on and after OCTOBER 1, 1937,
those failing to comply with said Act by such time will be proem

Ashleigh, Aug. 16.—The Ashleigh
Woman’s Missionary Society met at
the home of Mrs. Maxine Eubanks on
Wednesday, Aug. 11th. A song and
prayer opened the meeting, following
which interesting talks were made
by Mrs. Eubanks, Mrs. Ellen Black,
Mrs. Lee Lancaster and Mrs. Edna
Owens. A, ( musical reading and song
by Mrs. D. T. Ross, ilrs. Edna Owens
and daughters, Jennie Lou and Vera,
was enjoyed.
After the business session, re
freshments consisting of crackers,
sandwiches, cake and tea were served.
Those present were Mrs. Lee Lan
caster, Miss Emma Lancaster, Mrs.
Billie Hair, Mrs. D. I. Ross. Mrs.
Aiken Owens, Misses Vera and Jennie
