The annual protracted meeting is in progress at Long Branch Baptist Church. Large crowds are in attend ance at each meeting. The Rev. J. A. Mordecai Mazuraky entertain ed a number of Lit:'* boys and girls with a party at her homo on Washing ton Street on Tuesday evening honor ing her little guest, Miss Jo Anne Steinberg, of Charleston. A number of games and contests were enjoyed by the guests after which they as sembled in the living room and mov ing pictures were shown by Mordecai Mazursky of scenes filmed recently at Folly Beach. Ice cream and cake were served for refreshments. ACE OF CLUBS MET SATURDAY EVENING. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Fales entertained the members of the Ace of Clubs at their home on Nightingale Street on Saturday evening. Supper was serv ed on the card tables before bridge was enjoyed. After several rounds of cards had< been played it was found that the high score prize for ladies, a set of cocktail glasses, had been ♦on by Mrs.. A uniform opening time had to be agreed upon for this transporta tion reason. The eight months term schools will open two weeks later— September 23rd. It was desired by some superin tendents and trustees that their schools sbouD open earlier so that the school children in Ame sections might be ready to begin packing cucum bers, etc, next spring when these truck crops were harvested. Bleck- ville is remodeling its high school building, and Willis ton is repairing the storm damage to the grammar school plant, and neither of these will be ready sooner that the MR of September. With cotton now fm- ing picked, ft to believed that most of the crop will be gathered before the schools open.
