Mrs. Louise Bauer, of Orangeburg, spent the week-end in Barnwell. Charlie LaFitte, of Estill, spent the week-end in Barnwell with friends. Miss Thelma Furtick spent last week at the Isle of Palms with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Calhoun Lemon spent the week-end 1 at St. Simon’s Island, Ga. Mrs. Lillian Plexico and son, “Ted” Plexico, are visiting relatives at Plapt City, Fla. Stephen Deason, of Greenville, is spending this week'in Barnwell mith relatives. Mrs. J. A. Porter spent last week in Asheville, N. C., with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Widman. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Gross, of Green ville, spent the week-end in Barnwell with relatives. Dr. R. A. Deason left Monday for Greenville, where he will spend a week with relatives. Mrs. B. P. Davies, Jr., Mrs. J. P. Scoville and Mrs. H. J. Phillips spent Tuesday in Augusta. Mrs. F. P. Cuthbert left Sunday for Folly Beach where she will spend some time with friends. Mrs. W. L. Molair is spending sev eral daiys in Sumter with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McLaurin. James Hogg, of Union, spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Hogg. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jarrell, of Au gusta, Ga., spent Sunday in Barnwell with Dr. R. A. Deason. Mrs. N. T. McElroy, of Cbmmerre, Ga.. is spending several days here with Mrs. S. A. McNab. Mrs. Lena Davies left Tuesday for Augusta, Ga., where she will spend a few days with friends. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bence, of Union, spent the week-end here with Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Creighton, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hagood, of Atlanta, Ga., spent the week-end here with Mrs. P. H. Harvard. Brown Easterling, of Denmark, spent the week-end here with his mother, Mrs. Lessie Easterling. Mrs. T. D. Calk, of Charleston, spent the week-end in Barnwell with her mother, Mrs. E. W. Holman. Miss Novice Boylston, of Florence, is spending some time in Barnwell with Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Boylston. Miss Mary Gay O’Bannon left last week for Richmond, Va., where she will spend some time with relatives. Mrs. T. Ladson Webb, of Charles ton, spent several days last week in Barnwell with Mr. and Mrs. J. P. ■ King, Jr. Miss Elizabeth McNab returned to Barnwell Saturday afternoon after spending the past week at Winthrop College. Miss Elizabeth Grubbs, of Bates- burg, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mi's. J. B. Grubbs. Frank visitor P. Cave, Eaq., was a busi in Columbia Friday. Mra. Mordecai Mazursky and chil- dern spent last week at Folly Besch. Miss Estelle Bennett is spending several days in Hemingway with rela tives and friends. Mrs. Jennie 0. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Bronson left Sunday afternoon for Myrtle Beach, where they will spend the week. Miss Margaret Lemon returned home Sunday after spending some time in Philadelphia, Pa., with rela tives. Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Estes returned home Sunday from St. Augustine, Fla., where they spent the past several days. Mrs. Herman Sandeis and son. Jack, of Fairfax, spent several days here last week with Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Joyner. Claude Morris and Cecil Holly, have returned to the Abbeviile CCC camp after a visit to relative in Barnwell and Blackville. t Miss Charlotte Meadors has re turned to her home in Dillon after spending several days here with Mrs. Basil M. Miss Paula Mazursky is visiting relatives in Chicago, she having gone from Washington, D. C., to the windy city last week. Mrs. J. P. Scoville and young son are spending some time in Abbeville with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Mabry. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Harley, Jr., and Hummel Harley left Thursday after noon for New York City, where they will spend several days. Mrs. Sarah J. Connor, of West Palm Beach, Fla., ia visiting relatives and friends at Kline. She will return to her home the last of this week. Jones and chil dren spent several days last week at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. B. P. Davies, Sr., and son Billy Davies, left Tuesday morning for Greensboro, N. C., where Mrs. Davies was called suddenly on account of the illness of her mother, Mrs. P. M. Stuart. “Sonny” Bennett, of Columbia, has returned to his home after spending some time in Barnwell with his grand-, parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Bennett. He was accompanied home by Billy Bennett, who will spend a few days in the State Capital. The many friends of Dr. R. E. Brown will be glad to learn that he is able to be out again after having been confined to his home for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Blackwell and three daughters, Wichsville, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. D. Blackwell and two sons, of Newcomerstown, Ohio, J. H. West, of Cashacton, Ohio, and Mrs. Hattie Blackwell, of Clinton, spent several days with Dr. and Mrs. P. W. Stevens this week. good, with novelty jam dishes. Mrs. Charlie Brown, Jr., was hostess to the members of the Junior-Smart Set Bridge Club at her home on Thursday afternoon. After several rounds of cards had been enjoyed it was found that the high score prize for club members, handkerchiefs, had been won by Mrs. R. L. Bronson and the consolation prize for club mem bers, a box of stationery, was cut by Mrs. Calhoun Lemon. The guest prize, also handkerchiefs, was a- warded Mrs. Horace M. Fisher, of New York City. After cards had been laid aside the hostess served a delicious salad course with iced tea. Those who enjoyed the hospitality of Mrs. Brown, other than club members, included Mrs. Horace M. Fisher of New York City, and Mrs. L. A. Cave. and went to Wrightsville at the con clusion of the engagement at the South Carolina beach. She is considered by many who have heard her sing to have one of brightest futures in her chosen field of any young lady in this section It is reported that she turned down an offer to go on a commercial pro gram over station WBT at Charlotte to accept the present contract. How ever, it is possible that she will go back into radio work upon completion of her summer work. Miss Terry has sung over the air on a number of occasions and her voice is well known to the radio audi* ence. [/dc/gfyf LADIES ARE HOSTESS];* TO METHODIST MEN. The ladies of the local Methodist Church were hostesses to the men of the church on Thursday evening at supper in the church dining room. The ladies and 1 gentlemen had held a contest for the best attendance record at Sunday School over a given period of time and the men came through victorious, thus causing the ladies to be hostesses for the supper. Edward Richardson, Denton Roun tree and Billy Davies arrived home Sunday from Anniston, Ala., where they have spent the past six weeks undergoing R. 0. T. C. training. NESO iIEDERO N. D. Coclin returned home Friday after spending a couple of weeks with relatives in Poughkeepsie, N. Y. Mrs. Coclin and two daughters remain- [ ed for a stay of several weeks. MR. AND MRS. BROWN ENTERTAIN AT BRIDGE. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Brown, Jr., entertained at three tables of bridge at their home on Monday evening. A salad course and delicious home made ice cream and crackers was served on the tables before bridge was en joyed. After several rounds of cards had ben played it was found that the high score prize had been won by B. P. Davies, Jr. FISH SUPPER ENJOYED BY LEGIONNAIRES. The members of the Ri.hardson- Walsh Post of the local American Legion enjoyed a fish supper on Tues-. cay evening. After several matters of importance to the po.it I a.i been disposed of, the following officers for the ensuing year were elected: T. D. Creighton, Jr., commander; J. M. Brodie, vice-commander; C. O. Jones, adjutant; P. A. Price, finance officer; S. H. Gantt, historian; E. E. GoodL son, publicity officer; W. L. Gleaton, sgt.-at-arms, and Mrs. G. M. Greene, service officer. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Curtis, of Barnwell, wHl be sorry to learn of the death of their young daughter, Annie Mae, aged 10, which ocourrad on Sunday afternoon at 6:30 o’clock. Annie Mae had been ill for some time and her death was not unexpected. She leaves surviving, her father and mother and two sis ters and two brothers. Funeral services were conducted at Mt. Lebonan Christian Church, near Barnwell Monday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock by the Rev. J. C.
