Mrs. B. L. Easterling was hostess
to the members of the Johnson Ha-
good Chapter, U. D. C., on ^ Friday
evening. Mrs. F. S. Brown, presi
dent, opened the meeting with prayer
followed by the Salute to the Flag and
American’s Creed, aftlr which re
ports from all officers and commit
tees were given. The chapter decided
to honor our last surviving veteran,
Mr. B. M. Jenkins, of Kline, who is
now in his 91st year, with a party on
Wednesday, June 9th. Mr. Jenkins
celebrated his 90th birthday in March
and is in good health. After all busi
ness was completed Bingo was enjoy
ed, prizes falling to Mrs. G. M. Greene,
Mrs. J. J. Bell and Mrs. F. S. Brown.

The house occupied by Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Cook caugh lire in the kitchen
roof about 1:80 Tuesday afternoon.
Little damage was done and the blaze
was smothered before the arrival of
the local Are department. It is be
lieved that the Are originated from the
kitchen floe.
