ter attending the marriage of his
daughter, Mias Fannie Cooper in
Milwaukee, Wis., last week.
Mrs. C. S. Harris and daughter, of
Richmond, Va., arrived in Barnwell
Sunday to spend some time with the
former's mother, Mrs. J. A. Porter.
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hair and
daughter, of the Long Branch section,
spent Sunday with Mrs. Ira Hair.
Miss Margaret Dlte was called to
Darlington on Saturday because of
the serious illness of her mother.

Porter will regret to learn that she

past several days because of illness.

Festmaster R. A. Denson announc
ed this week that the receipts at the
local post office were a boat one hun
dred dollars in excess for April over
the same month last yaar. The re
ceipts have shown a steady increase
for the past several months. Parcel
receipts are considered a good gen
eral barometer for business, so it
seems that Barnwell la still traveling
upon the road to recovery.

manager of the local office of the
Liberty Life Insurance Ca^ for the
past several months, left Monday for
Clinton, where he will ha manager -of
the office there. Mr. Hanson, of
Lenagtoa, la now in charge of the
Barnwell office.
The many friends of Mias Margaret
McAllister will regret to learn that
she was carried to the Baptist Hospi
tal hi Columbia Saturday afternoon.
She was operated on Monday morn
ing and the latest reports srere to the
effect that she was doing as well as
could be expected.
Members of Circle No. 4 of the
local Methodist Church met at the
home of Mrs. J. H. Black on Monday
afternoon. A most enjoyable and in-
! structive lesson was given following
which the hostess served delicious re
freshments. Quite a large number of
the members of the class were present.

FRIDAY NIGHT.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Norman Anderson
entertained the members of the Ace
of Clubs at their home on Railroad
Avenue on Saturday night. A threje
course supper was served on the
card tables before bridge was enjoyed.
After cards had been laid aside it
was found that the high score prize
for ladies, a linen table cover, had
been won by Mrs. L. A. Cave, while
the high score prize for men, hand
kerchiefs, was awarded L. A. Cave.

MARY G. HARLEY CLASS.
One of the most delightful of the
season’s parties was given on Tues
day evening when Mrs. L. C. Eidson
entertained the members of the Mary
G. Harley Sunday School Class, of
the Baptist Church, at her home on
Main Street. A short business ses
sion was held, captains for the month
elected and sides drawn, the reds be
ing led by Mrs. A. A. McAllister, and
the blues by Mrs. Jackson Sanders.
After all business had been completed
various stunts were entered into and
a most enjoyable evening was spefit.
Prizes were given to the winners of
several contests. Mrs. L. M. Cave,:
teacher of the class, was also remem
bered by the hostess with a beautiful
handkerchief. After completion of
the evening’s entertainment the host
ess, assisted by Mrs, J. E. MahafTey
and Mrs. J. B. Harley, served a de
licious salad course.
