ville, Ga., spent the week-end here

Mr. and Mrs. Perry B. Bush and

Robert Henry Moody, of Columbia,
spent several days this week with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Moody,
Jr., In the Big Fork section.
Perry A. Price and R. S. Fitzpat
rick were among those from Barnwell
who attended the Augusta National
golf tournament in Augusta Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Fales, Mrs. J. N.
Anderson and Mrs. W. J. Lemon at
tended the Music Festival in Colum
bia on Saturday.
Mrs. L. O. Riew, woh spent a cou
ple of weeks here with relatives and
friends, returned to her home at
White Hall on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs Geo. R. Evans and
Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Brown attend
ed the dbg show in Aiken Saturday af
ternoon. Mrs. Evans’ dachshund won
second place in the group to which it
was assigned.
The many friends of Mordecai Ms-
zursky will regret to learn that he
underwent an operation at the Co
lumbia Hospital last week for appendi
citis. It is hoped that he will have a
speedy recovery.
Mrs. Hunter Kennedy and son, of
Binghampton, N. Y., who have been
spending some time here with Mr.
and Mrs. W. J. Lemon, left Satunfey
for Columbia, where they will spend
the week with relatives.
Miss Sallie Britton, who holds a
responsible position with a hospital
in Arizona, is visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Wingo at Kline. She is a
former resident of Barnwell, but
lived in Columbia for a number of
years before accepting her present
position.

W. Rufus Moore, son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. R. Moore, of Snellmg, was
earned to a Columbia hospital on Sat
urday for an appendix operation. His
many friends will be glad to learn that
he is resting well end an early re
covery is expected.

ENTERTAIN ACE OF CLUBS.
The members of the Ace of Clubs
were entertained on Saturday night
by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. R. Evans at
their home on Washington Street.
Supper, consisting of shrimp v a la
creole, salad!, crackers, coffee and
cookies, was served on the card tables
before cards were enjoyed. After
several rounds gf bridge it was found
that the high score prize for ladies, a
sandwich tray, had been won by Mrs.
Solomon V. Brown, and the high score
prize for men, a deck of cards, was
a wanted IT. Norman Anderson. Those
who enjoyed the evening, other than
club members, included Miss Louise
Evans, of Sandersville, Ga., W. R.
Price, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Scoville and
Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Davies, Jr.
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
CONTRACT CLUB.
The members of the Wednesday Af
ternoon Contract Club were entertain
ed by Mrs. Perry B. Bush at her
home. The high score prize for club
members was awarded Mrs. J. f.
Scoville; the consolation prize for
club members was cut by Mrs. B. P.
Davies, Sr.; the Jiigh score prize for
visitors was won by Mrs. W. J. Bax
ley, and the consolation prize for
visitors was cut by Mrs. B. W. Sex
ton. Each prize winner was present
ed with a deck of cards. After cards
had been laid aside for the afternoon
the hostess served a delicious salad
course with coffee. Those who en-
joytd Mrs. Bush’s hospitality, other
than club members included Mrs. W.
J. Baxley, Mrs. B. W. Sexton, Mrs.
W. W. Carter, Mrs. B. P. Davies, Jr.,

MRS. PORTER ENTERTAINS
LOCAL BOOK CLUB.
The members of the Barnwell Book
Club were entertained by Mn. J. A.
Porter at her home on Marlboro
Street on Friday afternoon. Quite a
large number of the members were
present and a most enjoyable pro
gram was presented. After all busi
ness had been completed, the hostess
served delicious refreshments during
the social hour.

JUNIOR SMART-SET
BRIDGE CLUB.
The members of the Junior Smart-
Set Bridge Club were entertained' on
Friday afternoon by Mrs. Robert L.
Bronson at her home on Jefferson
Street. The high score prize for club
members, a box of notepaper, was
awarded Mrs. W. L. Molair, and the
consolation prize for club members,
also notepaper, was cut by Mrs. Solo
mon Blatt. The high score prize for
guests, a box of mints, was won by
Mrs. B. P. Davies, Sr., and the con
solation prize for guests, scorepads
and pencils, was cut by Mrs. H. K.
Tinsley, of Austin, Texas. After
several rounds of bridge the hostess
served a delicious sweet course with
coffee. Those who enjoyed Mrs. Bron
son’s hospitality, othr than club mem
bers inducted Mrs.~H. K. Tinsley,
Mrs. Hunter Kennedy, Mrs. B. P.
Davies, Sr., and Mrs. Geo. R. Evans.
Givemi. Leonard.
Williston, April 3.—A wedding of
outstanding interest was solemnised
at the home of the bride’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Givena, Satur
day evening. March 27th. when Misa
Grace Alice Givena became the bride
of John Sloan Leonard, of Due West
and Spartanburg. The ceremony was
performed by the Rev. W. R Garrett,
presiding elder of the Greenwood dis
trict. M E. church. South, an uncle
of the bridegroom.
Prior to the ceremony, Mias Wiliora
Garrett, of Anderson, a cousin of the
bridegroom, accompanied by Mias
Sadie Garber, sang **! Loare You truly."
Mendelssohn‘a "Wedding March" was
played by Mrs. Plotilde Thompson
The bridegroom enured on the arm
of his uncle, the Rev. Mr. Garrett
The bride, who was given ia mar
riage by her father, was lovely ia
her wedding gown of ivory satin, fea
turing a high cowl neck and long
sleeves with fullness at the shoul
ders. Her veil was held ia place by
a wreath of orange blossoms. She
carried a bouquet of bride’s roses and
lilies of the valley.
After the ceremony Mr.’ and Mrs.
Givena entertained with an informal
reception. Refreshments were served.
Mrs. Leonard is a graduate of Coker
college and for the last several years
has been a tescher in the high schools
in South Carolina. At present she ia
a member of the faculty of Spartan
burg city schools.
Mr. Leonard is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. C. B. Leonard, of Due West. He
is a graduate of Erskine college and
holds a responsible position with the
Texas company in Spartanburg.
Following a short wedding trip,
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard will reside in
Spartanburg.
W\ O. Halford.
Willie O. Halford, 75, died at his
home in Barnwell at two o’clock Sat
urday morning, after long ill health.
For many years Mr. Halford was the
official court crier at Barnwell and
was a farmer before failing health
forced his retirement.
His body was laid to rest at 11 o’
clock Sunday morning in the Long
Branch Churchyard, the funeral ser
vices being conducted by the Rev. J.
Aubrey Estes, of this city. He is
survived 1 by his wife and several sons
and daughters, who have the sympathy
of many friends in their bereavement.
