Mrs. Calhoun Lemon entertained the
members of the Junior-Smart Set
Bridge Club at her home on Friday
afternoon. The high s core prize for
club members, a portfolio for note
paper, was awarded Mrs. Solomon
Blatt and the consolation prize for
club members, hosiery kit, was cut
by Mrs. Mordecai Mazursky. The
high score prize for guests, a candy
jar, was won by Mrs. E. H. Girardeau,
and the consolation prize for guests,
an ash tray, wa s cut by Mrs. W. J.
Lemon. After cards had been laid
side for the afternoon the hostess, as
sisted by Mrs. H. A. Gross, served a
pear s alad course with iced tea. Tho^e

a brother of G. M. Greene, Esq., and
has many friends throughout Barnwell
County who will welcome him on his

ed from Atlanta, where he was the
guest of two of his gons. Dr. Norman

The Barnwell County health officer
wishes us to announce that there will
be a clinic held at the County health
office at the Court* House on Saturday,
August 22nd, at 9 o’clock, to vaccinate
all children of pre-school age against
small pox. Both white and colored
children are eligible.

ENGAGEMENT.
Blackville, Aug. 8—Mrs. Charlie
Hutson Mathis, of Blackville, an
nounces the engagement of her
daughter, Hettie Walker, to Mr. Mar
vin Holland, of Barnwell. The mar
riage will be tolenmixed in September.
Ga., an uncle of the bride.
The candles were lighted by David
Gregg Adams, Jr., and Covington Har
den. The program music preceding
the ceremony consisted of vocal solos
and a duct by Mra. Estus White, of
Kannapolis, N. C., snd Abbott Lake,
Jr., and duets by Miss Louise Hoff
meyer, organist, and Mrs. J. H. At-
will, pianist.
The bride came in with her father,
who gave her in marriage. She was
beautifully g»Avned in a floor length
dress of white Duchess lace over white
satin, with Queen Anne collar and
leg-o-mutton sleeves. The dress wa s
made princess style, with triple
flounce in front and long train. Her
veil of illusion, edged with lace
matching her dress, fell from a lace
cap with coronet of satin, embroider
ed in seed pearls and caught with
orange blossoms and miniature calla
lilies.
She was attended by Misses Louise
and Virginia Fulton, Faye Long and
Elizabeth Lee, of Florence, Miss Alice
McNairy, of Lauffnburg, N. C., Miss
Ann Moss, of York, Mis s Elizabeth
Johnston, of Jacksonville, Fla., and
Mis s Annie Mae Adamson, of Mayo,
Fla., as bridesmaids. They wore
dresses of pink and blue mousseline de
s oie and carried Colopial bouquets.
The junior bridesmaids were Miss’
Jaudon Harley, of Barnwell, sister of
the bridegroom, and Miss Martha
Morrison, of Pembroke, Ga., who
wore pink mouseline.
Mrs? C. W. Brown, of Oaklyn, N. J.,
was the matron of honor, and the
bride’s sister, Miss Mildred Louise
McKeithen, was her maid of honor.
They were gowned in blue mousse-
line de s oie, and carried Colonial bou
quets tied with silver ribbon.
The usher-groomsmen were Hummel
Hr.rley, brother of the bridegroom, B.
S. Moore, Jr., Basil M. Jenkins, III,
Herman Mazursky, Dr. L. T. Claytor,
Harry Anderson, Wilson Sanders and
Alf Connor, Jr., of Barnwell.
The bridegroom was attended by
his father as hi 8 best man.
Immediately after the ceremony
at the church a reception waa held at
Mra. McKe 'hen wore pink lace,
with cormage of peach colored gladi
oli, and Mra. Harley waa gowned in
black lace, with a pink rosebud cor
sage.

During the evening the bride and
bridegroom left for a wedding trip
to New York and Canada. She wore
for traveling a suit of navy blue chif
fon, with accessories of navy and
white.
Mrs. Harley is the eldest daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. McKeithen. After
graduating from the Florence high
school she attended Winthrop college,
from which she graduated in 1935 with
first honors. During her junior and
senior years at Winthrop she held the
Friedheim scholarship for maintain
ing the highest scholastic average in
her class. She was editor-in-chief of
The Johnsonian, charter member and
first president of The Book and Key,
a member of the senior order of Beta
Pi Theta, and of Eta Sigma Phi. For
the past year s she has been teaching in
the city schools of Barnwell.
Mr. Harley is the elder son of Lieut.-
Governor and Mrs. Harley. He re
ceived hi s education in the Barnwell
schools, at the University of South
Carolina and at Wofford college. He
is a planter and produce broker, of
Barnwell, where he and his bride will
make their home.
