Under the above caption, the New berry Herald and News makes the fol lowing reply to a recent editorial in The People-Sentinel: “We are quite willing to do as the esteemed Barnwell People-Sentinel suggests and give the Roosevelt ad ministration credit “for at least a few worthwhile accomplishments,” but we mre not at all sure that these benefits are commensurate with the cost in money and the baneful effect on the country. The spending of billions is bound to prove helpful for a time. \ “The Barnwell paper implies that we are somewhat dense In not discov ering over a period of years that the Saturday Evening Post is a Republi can sheet,It peinta out that in re cent months many of the Post’s arti cles andl editorials have been critical of the New Deal, and cites the series in which an attempt was made to sad dle blame for the banking crisis on the president. The writer's hypothesis was that by silence between the time of his election and inauguration Mr. Roosevelt, produced such a state of panic the banks were forced to close. “It is unsafe to assume, we think, that because a paper takes a critical attitude toward the New Deal it is pro-Republican. Considter the Hearst papers, and right here in South Caro lina we have a staunch Democratic daily that attacks the New Deal as un relentingly as does the New York Herald-Tribune.
