Deer from the Edisto swamps are
destroying the corn and pea crops of
Mr. Sam Dyches on Dr.' B. F. Peeples’
place.
The County Commissioners met on
Tuesday, approved a good many claims,
paid out $1,005, and refused- to de
clare the road from Graham’s to Bam
berg a public road.
When Ben Davies visits Augusta

Mr. F. T. Anderson, of Reynolds,

address before the Bates Family As
sociation of the United States at
Cohasset, Massachusetts, in August.
He expects to be there and give.some
good Southern talk to the bearers, of
his name.
Farmer Judson Greene, of Rich
Land township, has a sure curiosity in
a fine five-apre cut of corn. It is a
stalk having blade/i seven inches in
width. He will apply nitrate of soda
arouid it and watch the result. It
will, if a new variety, be valuable
certainly as a fodder plant, and may
also be a good grain bearer. About
ten year s ago Mr. Greene had a similar
stalk but gave it no special attention.
Dr. W. C. Smith’s many friends
throughout he country will be inter
ested in the announcement of his en
gagement,, and approaching marriage
on the 18th prox. to Miss Carrie
Pegues, of Marlboro. ’
The education meeting at Dunbar
ton on Thursday was well and wisely
addressed by Superintendlent Horace
J. Grouch, and proper first -steps were
taken looking to t-hg~ consolidation of
Dunbarton and Hickory Grove School
Districts. A committee' of Messrs7
W. A. Dicks, H. P. Anderson, J. M.
Killingsworth and R H. Burckhalter
will present the action of the meeting
to the County Board of Education on
