The County Commissioners issued on Tuesday 267 checks to holders ^of past indebtedness claims, amounting to $4,166.86 and being 82 per cent, of past indebtedness prior to 1876. Hon. I. M. Hutson, who has been sprite sick with pneumonia, is up ngain but not able to attend his of fice. Owing to his illness the re moval of the remains of the Rev. Ed ward Pnlmer t6 Colleton County has been postponed. Mr. Palmer died some two years ago at the ripe age of 94 years and was buried here tem- „ porarily. The new mail route from Barnwell to Greenland, via Holly Grove, Dun barton and B. F. Weathersbee’s, will soon be in operation. N William Miller, son of Mr. F. Mil ler, who merchandised in Barnwell County before the war, and familiarly known as “Dummy" Miller, died at Mr. 8. W. Woodward’s on the 28th ult. of pneumonia. A Big Deal.—Virginia .capitalists last week completed the purchase.of timber lights on upward^ of 10,000 acres of land in swamps of the Salt- kehatchie and its tributaries. They will erect extensive mills near the Coast Line tracks between the Salt- pointed stenographer of the Second kehatchie and Turkey Creek, less than Circuit. „ I two miles from Barnwell.
