South Carolina counties Monday in
the third monthly payment of State
aid to schools. Of this amount,
Barnwell County received $&;502;
Aiken, $21,386; Allendale, $8,607;
Bamberg, $6,524; Hampton, $8,665.
Services at Ashleigh.
The People-Sentinel has been re
quested to announce that an important
business meeting of the membership
of the Ashieigh Baptist Church will
be held at four o’clock Sunday after
noon, December 9th. The pastor, the
Rev. B. J. Mclver, of Columbia, will
conduct preaching services at four-
thirty o’clock the same afternoon.
The public is cordially invitej to at
tend this service.
Fairfax Girl Saved.
Atlanta, Nov. 30.—A two-inch surf
fishing line sinker that had been in
the lung of Lilliam Johnson, 19, of
Fairfax, S. C., for eight years today
was removed in twenty-one minutes
by Dr. Murdock Equen.
After the ooeration, Dr. Equen re
ported Miss Johnson would recover.
She had pneumonia several times and
was in a hospital for seveial years.
The sinker-got into the lung of the
girl while she and her family were
surf fishing near Charleston in 192G.

day night at 11:30 o’clock, after an
illness of several weeks, and while
not unexpected the news of.her pass
ing was a shock to a wide circle of
friends.
Funeral services were conducted at
ida
afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by the Rev.
J. Aubrey Estes, pastor of the Barn
well Baptist Church, with interment
in the Seven Pines cemetery
Besides her husbsncl, Mrs. Wll is
survived by several small children;
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. VV. T. S.i.l,
of Snelling; five sisters, Mrs. Clyde
Bright, of North Carolina; Mrs. J. W
Sanders, Mrs. Rufus Sanders, Mrs
Annie Strickland and Mrs. Carlisle
Morris, all of Barnwell County; and
two brothers, Charlie and Jim §till,
of Snelling.
P. It. Purler
P. B. Porter, a fturner resident of
Williston and later of Blackvil.e, diee
in a Columbia hospital Friday, No
vember 22nd 1 .
Mr. Porter was a long and patient
suffereT, having'been in rli health for
many years. He was seventy years
of age, was born near Williston and
had spent most of his life in anc
around this section. He served many
years as policeman on our streets ant
always did what his duty demanded
He whs a member of the Eusto Bap
tist Church and in his lust .days of
suffering and trials he found much
comfort in its teachings. He is sur
vived by his wife, Mrs, Estelle Mason
Porler, eigh 1 ! daughters, two sons,
12 grandchildren and one great-grand
child.
The funeral was on Sunday morn
ing, and was conducted by his pastor
at the Edisto Church, where he was
laid to rest.—Williston Way.
