The patient himself Is encouraged to
be of service to others, not as a serv-
an* but by showing a willingness to
help where help Is really needed.
One of the greatest aids has been
work Itself; the patient accomplishing
some real physical work such aa farm
ing or carpentry work.
-Of still greater help, has been
sports. The patient Is encouraged to
take part In games, learn to look for
his turn to bat, and to go out In the
field en it is his turn to do so.
You can readily seo that If h* finds
ho can do things, that he Is treated
w respect, he la going tn be "taken
«| out of himself,” and become one of the
crowd, one of the community. Instead
of being odd or out of things.
He really hasn’t the time to De
dreaming about himself If he la mixing
with others at play, work or other oc
cupation.
Souetimos there are physical factors
lnt< 'feriug with his mental catlook—
poor eyesight, poor hearing, bad teeth
or tonsils—and these conditions must
of course be corrected before any
progress can bo made.
The whole thought In treatment then
Is to build up his self-respect and get
him out of the dream state, because
; lu the dream atato he squarw or
rifles himself or his actions to hlmaelf
and is satisfied.

The Merfin of Safely in
Your Body
O NE of the subjects th* snglaMr
must study Is “strength of mate
rials” so that If he builds a building
or bridge he knows Just what Is needed
to support that building or bridge
when It is carrying Its heaviest load.
In order to make the structure safe,
he makes it stronger than la necessary
to support this heaviest load, and this
extra strength is spoken of as the
“maAiu of safety.”
What about that body of yours? Is
It built with this margin of safety, so
that If undue stress or strain is put
upon It, it will be able to withstand it?
A first year medical student, or any
one who %as given the body even a
slight amount of study knows that
practically all parts of the body from
tho bones outward to the akin, havo a
margin of safety surpassing anything
designed by man.
You need food and water every day,
yet men have done without food for
40 days, and water for 7 to 10 days,
because the fat on the body and tho
water In and among th* tissue* havo
been able to maintain life.
