“Dr.” Joe Molony, who was called in,
as all the practicing physicians were
out of town.

the South Carolina CJollege; 185
student# are in attendance. Messrs.
A. W. Owens, L. A. Stoney, A. T.
Allen and W. H. Broadwater are ma

Capt. C. E. Lartigue will visit his
Florida orange grove next week. He
thinks Florida the promised land for
poor men, and says that one acne of
good land in that State will produce
more than five in Carolina. The town
of Orlando, to which he will move
next year, ha# quadrupled its popula
tion in less than two years. His pic-
tares of the Land of Flowers are very
attractive, but as long as Barnwell
continues to grow pretty girl* and
watermelons we advise our young
men against emigration.

the prosecution. The defence was
conducted by Attorneys B. F. Wyman
and J. M. Patterson by appointment
of the presiding Judge.

night the follcwing officers were
elected: H. W. Quinn, pre^dent; Dr.
E. L. Patterson, 1st vice president; P
W. Price, 2nd vice president; R. Boyd
Cole, secretary. It was recommended
that $1,500 payable in money or labor
be raised by popular subscription for
road improvement, and that a vote on
the levying of a special tax be taken
next year, it being too late to do so
this year. The Town of Barnwell
heads the list with a subscription of
$300 and a number of business houses
gave $100 each. It was proposed to
improve the loads towards Mercatus
