“Believe It or Not” Ripley says
that a Connecticutt man has worn the
same necktie for 77 years. Judging
from the looks of some seen around
here, that tie is practically new.
Senator Huey P. Long, of Louis
iana, self-styled “Kingfish” informed
-the Democratic national committee
that he is “the Democratic party in
Louisiana.” And if we lived in
Louisiana we’d be a lmost tempted to
turn Republican.
The “big fellows” have found a way
to get around paying the tax on
checks. Again it’s the little fellow
who is made to pay and pay and pay.
And the new federal tax bill, Con
gress declared, was designed to get
the rich folk*. Oh, yeah?
buy an office.
—Friend# send your favorite con
gressmen some^toys. They are doing
so many baby things that jack stones
and alphabet blocks and rubber balls
and dolls will possibly appeal tb
them and keep them out of meanness
besides. i I • • , .
-.-..Our member.'! of congress go to
work at 12 o’clock noon, take an
hour off for lunch at 2 o’clock p. m.
Quit at 4 o’clock p. m. and call it a
day. It costs only $25,850.00 per
minute to run our congress, but that
doesn’t include any appropriations.
It will neverdo to cut tlfe salaries
of public employees.. Their feelings
might b e hurt, bless their darling
little sweet sopls. Everybody else can
go naked and -starve, but Uncle Sam-
mie’s family .«hall not bp disturbed.
The taxpayers can get along some
way. It would be a backward step
to reduce expenses, so “they” say.

It Is Finished.
Well, folks, our budget has been
balanced at last. It wasn’t so much
tru ble after all. Congress didn't
have a thing to d<» except -finish rob
bing the public, and *ip! there w»-
thp cash -or rathi-r, mighty fine
prospects.
— There was no other reasonable
way to get the money. Y> u realize
that they simply had to have it or
cot expenses Now wouldn't you feel
like a little chump if your govern
ment were to try to cut down on its
spending—and be H cheap skate?
If times ever get better, we must
run all of our a ffaini on the govern
ment plan. If you are br>ke, keep all
your help, buy a few new cars, build
another story on-to yodr store, bor
row or steal money from your neigh-
ber and spend it, and by all means,
spit in the face of your be«t custo
mer* when they come to trade with
you, but call it "taiiff saliva.”
We have been tearing our shirts
in the past for tandufete*. but it
look* like very, few of us will have
any shirt'to tear very long. If this
countiy is depending on politics to
help it recover, it’s all over hqt ‘fill
ing in the grave. Instead of eut‘»ng
down to dove-tail with our income,
we are raising taxes, double-taxing,
and simply taxi-ing along toward
something that smell* like hiimst »fte.
