Times do not change nearly as much or as rapidly as people believe, a* witness several items thi s week in the column, “Barnwell 50 Year* Ago.” For instance, there is a paragraph telling of “A Cool Change” in the weather, it being “cold enough for fires and overcoats were comfortable.” A similar weather condition .existed during the past week, both fires and overcoats being quite compf stable. Another item describe* an old pocket book 150 years old. It was made of tin. Today lots o/ people are keeping what little money they have in tin cans or tin boxes or what have you. And how often do we hear criticisms of the modern dance, which many term an invention of th e devil him self. A few fancy step* may have been added during the past half- century but the “basic principle” has apparently remained the same. We quote no less an authority than our ownCol. N. G. W. Walker, who made the following comment 50 years ago: "A new dance for warm summer evening? has just been invented. The couples have nothing to do but stand and hug while the band plays a aolemn air. That beats the ‘racket,’ which gives no leisure for hugging.” The only difference seems to be that the band no longer “plays a solemn air.” When you vote for a man in the future, why n:.t consider him from a personal viewpoint, for instance: Would you let him work for you? Would y.'O take him in as a partner? 1 Would y^u let him loaf in your back yard at night If not, why not? than to kick cn it too but con-idaring Barnwe| , , nd g,,., of South Carolina , vision., cf thi, .«* n a. to residence everything, I gues?
