Mrs. Perry A. Price was hostes s to
the members of the Junior-Smart Set
Bridge Club Thursday afternoon. The
High score prize for club members, a
towel, was won by Mrs. McLean; the
high score prize for guests, a hand
kerchief, was won by Mrs. Marvin
Hale, and the consolation, a deck of
cards, was cut by Mrs. Eugene East
erling. The hostess served a sweet
course. The guests included Mrs.
Marvin Hale and Miss Mobley.

class of the Methodist Church • of
Barnwell was delightfully ^entertain
ed on Thursday afternoon of last
week at the regular business and
social meeting for January at the
home of Mr. an4 Mrs. Morgan Weath-
ersbee, of Pleasant Hill.
Twenty members of the clasg were
present, also two visitors, Mrs. Dane
Vickery and Miss Ruth Diamond.
During the business hour the elec
tion of officers for the ensuing year
was held, the results being as follows:

period was taken up with studies

cided to continue the study at next
month’s meeting, which will be held
at the home of Mrs. J. E. Harley.

There were 18,753 bales of cotton
ginned in Barnwell County prior *to
January 16th, as compared with 19,-
626 bales ginned to the same date a
year ago, according to a report made
public this week by P. U Baxley,
special agent, of Blackville.

Representatives of nearly all posts
in the ^Second Congressional District
of the American Legion met with
the Richardson-Wal-h Post in a dis
trict meeting at the Barnwel! Court
House on January 19th. Practically
all posts were represented, and more
than a hundred mernbers^were pres-
ent. A catfish stew with entrees was
a feature of the meeting. Lang

Every evening during the week-px-
cept the weekly prayer meeting hour,
the teachers and. officers of the Bap
tist Sunday School, under their pas
tor, the Rev. L. G.. Payne, have en
joyed a study course,—“Building a
Standard Sunday School.” The ses
sions have been well attended.
Monday evening the members of!
the local fire department held a meet
ing in the city hall for the purpose of
deciding upon equipment for fighting
fire, such as slickers, etc. Since its
organization the company has done
some good work under the fire chief,
W. R. Carroll. The service is appre
ciated. No fire has got beyond con
trol or spread to an adjoining ^uild-
fire-fighting apparatus.
The women of the School Improve
ment association sponsored-a picture
show at the school house Wednesday,
“The Passion Play.” A large crowd
