On Monday afternoon the Johnson
Hagood Chapter, U. D. C. t met with
Mrs; G. M. Greene with fourteen mem
bers present. After reports from the
various officers, delegates were ap
pointed to attend the General Conven
tion in Jacksonville,, Fla., on .Novem
ber U-24. Election >of officers for the
coming year was had and the follow

Circle No. 3 of the local Baptist
Church held its regular monthly meet
ing at the home Mrs. R. R. Moore, it)
Snelling on last Wednesday afternoon.
Seventeen members and visitors were
present. After a short business ses
sion the meeting was turned over to
Mrs. G. M. Greene for a social half
hour. Mrs. Marie Mace, member of
the Circle, was an henor guest and
after a unique contest, Mrs. Hayne
Hogg won first prize, which she pre
sented to Mis. Mace. The Circle also,
presented Mrs. Mace with s lovely
gift. The hostess'served 4 delicious
chkken talad course followed by a
sweet coure.

H. J. Phillips were joint hostesses on
Friday afternoon when bhey enter
tained with 11 tables of bridge in
honor^ of Mrs. Marie Mace, bride-
elect of next week. The lower floor
of the Easterling home was thrown
en suite and attractively decorated
with fall flowers, the color scheme of
yellow and white being carried out
in minute detail in both the decora-
tfcn B and refreshments. The honor
guest’s table was marked with*-a
miniature rolling pin. ^
As the gutats arrived, they were
given score cards by little Misses
Emily Anne Easterling and Betty Lee
Phillip*, daughters of the hostesses.
After several rounds had been played,
it was found that the high acore prize,
embroidered linen handkerchiefs, had
been won Mrs. < harlie Brown, Jr.;
the consolation, a Kat rack, wa 8 Cut
by Mrs. Perry A. Price, and the low
score prize, a green bottle of ginger
ale tied with green maline, was award
ed to Mrs. Charlie Brown, Sr. A
dozen Madeira tea napkin s were given
by the hoste*ses to Mrs. Mace, who
was also presented with the other
prizes by the winners. —^ ^
Refreshments, consisting of block
cream, individual cakes and’ home

On e of the most enjoyable meetings
of the Mary G. Harley class of the
Baptist Sunday School was held on
last Friday evening at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Dyches when
about thirty-five members of this
wide-awake class rnet fo r their month
ly social and business meeting. Mrs.
Marie B. Mace, member of this class,
was an honor guest on this occasion
and upon arrival each guest wa s ask
ed to register and at the same time
give advice to the bride-elect. After
all had registered the advic e given by
members T was read aloud and voted
upon. Mrs. iR. R. Moore received the
prize, her advice being “Always meet
him with a, smile,’’ same being pre
sented^ Mrs. Mace. ^ .
Boncil Dyches, having previously
prepared a big catfish stew as well as
fried fish, led horse bread and hot
coffee, announced early in the even

lovely miscellaneous shower was
given by Mesdames F. *H. Moody and
H. A. Moody in honor of Mrs. IL: S.
Moore, a recent bride, who before her
marriage was Mi*s Florence Sanders,
one of the most beautiful and talented
young ladies of- Olar.«
The room* were thrown en suite and
tasetfully decorated with ferns, ger
aniums and other pot plants, the
color scheme being pink and white.
The guests were met at the door
by Miss Eunice Morri# and fcondpeted
to the table containing. the bride’s
j>ook, in which th e guests registered,
which was presided pver by Mrs.
Stephen L. Hiers. They were then
presented to the bride, who was seat
ed on a beauttfuL.plnk and white
throne that had been arramliHl by
Mr*. Jeff Gunnels.
The brid e never looked more lovely
than on thi s occasion, bein^ dressed
in a charming brown flat crepe dress
with accessories to match.
During the afternoon, Miss Paulin e
Crosby sang: '*1 Love You Truly,” and
“The Sweetest Story Ever Told,” ac
companied at the piano by -Mrs. Ver
non Creech, ' who rendered music
throughout the afternoon.. A musical
solo was rendered by Mrs. E. D^Bes-
singer. A contest, “The^\Y«dding of
the Flowers,'” was arranged by Mrs.
C. M. Chitty^atia little Joe Ann
Moody carried the pencils around'on
a silver waited. The prize, a cutex
4et, was won by Miss Beinice Drum
mond and was presented to the bride.
Just after this a voice was heard
singing “Old Black Joe,” and in came
Mrs. Frank Spires, dressed as an old
darkey, “ carrying « huge clothes
hampe r . containing numerous lovely
and useful gifts for^the bride, also
another hamper was brought in and
Mis. Spyres and Mrs. C. W. fchitty
unwrapped the packages and gave
them to the bride.
