Several Citizens Pay Taxes.
J. J. Bell, county treasurer, reports
that receipts were issued to 20 tax
payers during the first week that his
i books were opened for the collection
of 1931 taxes. Sufficient school fund s
were realized to pay five teachers for
their first month’g work and Mr. Bell
hopes that the coming week will show
an increase in collections. Sallie
Myer«, of Barnwell, was the first
colored person to pay 1931 taxes.
Sinc e the county levy has been re
duced, about 70 cents out of every
dollar paid for taxes goe s to schools
and Mr. Bell urges prompt payment
in order that the schools may be kept
going.

will be opened at 10 o'clock a. m. on
September 25th, “and awards made

attention is called to thi s part of the
new Act, “all contracts for transpor
tation shall be awarded to the lowest
RESPONSIBLE bidder. Bids may

pils in a district and should be made
on a per pupil basis, and also a bid fer
tile total to be transported. The
munber of pupils to be transposed
ran be ascertained by applying to the
