Many faimers tell me that they ex pect to grow their crop without any fertiliser except a nitrogen potash side d resser. Maybe they can make without much fertilizer, but I never could. My recommendation is a small acre age fertilize! with at lea>t 1.200 lbs. of 7-5-7 fertilizer, although 1 hato to recommend any kind of an acreage m these days of uncertain maikets. • ' If you make a cheap l>ean crop you will probably make some money, but it must be a mighty cheap one. And the only way to make, a cheap crop is to put plenty of fertilizer un der them. Those of you who are planting cab bage, spinach, broccoli and the like, should try a few ounces of the White Broccili along w’ith your crop. J have seen this variety in a Beau fort garden and in looks good. Makes a nice large head like cauliflower and it is lots less trouble. Don’t dive in to it as a crop—Just try a little. Was reading an article the other day, quoted from the Florida Experi ment station. In commenting on the use of 6,000 pounds of fertilizer per acre for lettuce, it states: “When the nitiogen need of a crop i s satisfied, p -tash is effective in producing yield and quality, these increasing with the increase of pot ash up to 8 to 10 pdf cent in the fer tilizer mixture.” Mr. Lettuce Grower, you’d be sur prised if you read Bulletin 218 of the Florida Experiment Station, on this subject.
