Capt. Leland Ready, of Ontario,
Oregon, arrived here Saturday even
ing fer a weeks visit to his parents,
Capt. and Mrs. T. J. Ready, who live
a few miles South of Barnwell, and
other relatives in and near* Barnwell.
Mr. Ready is looking well and, of
<;ourse7is enjoying this short stay “at
home.”

Mrs. Gaston Atkinson, of Holly
Hill, who 'has been spending a few

Billie and Willis Duncan, have re
turned to Conway after a. week’s
visit to her aunt, Mrs. Dai§y Bucking
ham.
Monday’s newspapers contained the
news of three important inventions:
A television machine that reproduces
pictures on a 10-foot screen; a 200-
horse power motor that weighs only
14 pounds, and- the projection of
light from a bulb only four or five
times as large as the ones now used
in homes so that a person five miles
away is able to read a newspaper by
its rays. *

Mrs. India Green Snelling, 68, wife
of John K. Snelling, Judge of Probate
for Barnwell County, died at 1:30 o’
clock Tuesday morning at her home
here after.a shoit iliues^ of influenza^
followed by double pneumonia.
Though not unexpected, the news of
her passing brought sorrow to many
friend-: who had hoped against hope
that the summons of the Grim Reaper
rpight he stayed. In her death the
home Joses a faithful and devoted
wife and mother, the church a devout
member and the .community a true
Christian woman.
Funeral services were cohdpcted
yesterday (Wednesday! afternoon at
three o’clock at her late residence by
Dr. W. M. Jones, pastor of the Barn
well Baptist Church, and the Rev. B.
G. Murphy, pastor of the Barnwell
Methodist Church, the. body being laid
to rest in the Baptist Churchyard. A
large ccncourse'of sorrowing relatives
and sympathetic friends gathered to
pay their last tribute of respect and
th e lovely flowers that covered her
last resting place attested in so.ne
measure the esteem in which ^he was
held by those w'ho knew- her.

and J. Albert Snelling r of Atkinta,

Georgia McArthur, of Vidalra, Ga.;
two brothers, W. J. and Dixon Green,
of Willi-ton, and five grandchildren,
who have the synfpathy of~n host of
friends in their bereavements
