The article appearing in last week’s
issue of The People-Sentinel under
the caption “Heard in the Legisla
ture,” was reproduced from The State,
but through an error on the part of
the linotype operator in this office,
proper credit wag not given to the
Columbia newspaper. The clipping
was properly credited when sent to
the composing room.

Hen-House Facts.
About 15 months ago, I notified my
readers that 1 was going into the hen
business. I went in. I bought nice
pedigreed fowls and a few roosters to
match. My total hennery aggregates
12 of the female sex and 4 of the op
posite sex. We had eggs for break
fast once in Januaiy, but we bought
them at our grocer's, and we had eggs
again in February of our own and a
baked hen in March.
My wife never took any interest in
the poultry business until here very
recently. She has left it all to me.
She doesn’t understand chickens like
1 do. But she’s a natural-born hen
and rooster physician. There has been
some illness in the hen-house this
month and I have reported all of it to
her promptly and she did the rest.
An old rooster got “down in his
legs” last week. I wus very much
surprised the next day to find him
trying to hobble around on a pair of
crutches my wife had rigged up for
him. One of the hens had the soie-
head: my wife made a nice little
onion poultice for Mrs. Leghorn and
the seemed to enjoy the treatment
very much right on up to the very day
of her death. She gave a droopy
dominecker a big dose of castor oil.
1 held her (the hen’s) nose while it
wa« being administered. (P. S.—She
tlied last Friday—meaning the hen.
If oneof those birds ever shows the
least symptom of illness, he or she
might as well get ready for a dose of
aome kind of family medicine my
wife uses on her husband or the chil
dren. Her favoiite remedy for hen
ailments is epsom salts. She rubbed
one old roa-ter with Vicks salve till
he didn’t have a single feather on his
left side. She treated him for the
aide-plui isy. She tried to bathe an
old hen’s back with Sloan’s liniment
for some apparent trouble, but when
that stuff hit the old lady’s epider
mis, she flopped once and went right
atraight up into the air and she hasn’t
been heard of since.
The w'ater-trough is always full of
some new-fangled drugs. She tried to
make an old setting hen think a CC
pill was a pea the other day, but there
was nothing doing and she (the hen)
died the next day. (I think my wife
choked that old Minorker to death
forcing her to swallow that pill.) 1
observed the other day that old Miss
Rhode I. Redd wa 9 looking under the
weather. I found out later that she
had been taking broken doses of Tan-
lac and . S. S. S. My wife thinks Cas-
cara Sagrada will cure anything, so
■he always mixes that with corn meal
mush. Personally and confidentially,
I really don't think s he was the direct
cause of me losing about 64 per cent
of my poultry and chickens, including
birds, fowls and pullets. I am ready
for nature to take her course* hi the
chicken yards and let my wife take
her’s.

This case became abortive when
the lawyer for the defense proved
to the court that Bob Bibbs stood on
his head behind a smokehouse during
the Cleveland administration and
thus became disqualified as a juror
and he also failed to sign a check for
2 dollars worth of homebrew he
bought from his wife’s aunt in 19 and
17. He had also failed to register as
a citizen in 19 and 10. The case was
thrown out of court by his Honor, the
same having to do with case No. 23,
Bunk vs. Punk, Civil Code 22 f as
shown in Paragraph 55, Document 101,
Envelope 606, Kentucky-Journal of
Criminal Misdemeanors.

The democrats can win in a walk in
19 and 32 if they will select a man
with just a little bit of. sense and no
religion at all. The American, voters
don’t mipd a bit supporting a man
without piety in his soul, but he’d bet
ter be mighty dem particular what T. B. BUia

A mistrial was ordered in this case
when it became known to the court
house janitor that witness Smoke
swore that the defendant was shot on
the annex instead of in the alley as
was brought out by a previous witness
who had not qualified as a voter since
he got off the chaingang in 19 and 12.
Further mitigating circumstances ac-
cumumlated when Bosh swore that
he was with the defendant 2 weeks be
fore the melee and that he smelt like
a fruit jar immediately after the
fracas. Case No. 11, Vol. 4, Spain vs.
France, Year 1617, was chosen as an
alibi for ordering the mistrial.
It’a the Limit.

That wonderful peace parley is one
more bigvjoke. Limiting the size of
the various navies of the world won’t
prevent war. England or France or
Germany would fight just as hard with
10 ships as they would with 20 ships,
and it is possible that after the fight
started, the peace-pact would be a
scrap of paper. The only way to do
a good job in this case* is—sink all* the
ships and not build any more.

Monk vh. Catt.
This case was sent to the supreme
court on a demurrer in 19 and 20.
Monk was suing Catt for the return
of 1 pig which strayed into his back
yard in August without a written
permit from his daddy. The supreme
court sustained the demurter of the
lower court, but the attorneys for the
defense (who, by the way, voted for
Hoover in the last election) carried
the case to the U. S. Supreme court,
but Judge Advocate Botts decided
that the lower court erred when it
spelt Catt with one “t” and reversed
the decision of the magistrate - who
took charge of the pig. Case, State
of Idaho vs. Jackkass proved to be a
parallel case, therefore further ac
tion will be deferred unless Monk pays
Catt’s cost and vice versa. (The wit
nesses involved in these 4 cases num
bered 1IX. They cost the Statq $4.-
999.50. The jurors and judges got

tor truck loads of asparagus left here
today for Philadelphia, thi s being the
first produce ever shipped from this
section by motor truck. These trucks
are furnished by the Virginia Com
pany, which can place 50 trucks here

from 36 to 48 hours earlier than by

Kennedy today shipped second carload
of demonstration fed hogs, averaging
186 pounds. He shipped the first car
last week, at which time a carload of
chickens also left this market.

TREASURER’S TAX NOTICE
The County Treasurer’s office will be open from September 15th, 1929,
to May 1st, 1930, for collecting 1929 taxes, which include real and
personal property, poll and road tax.
All taxes due and payable between September 15th and December 31st,
1929, will be collected without penalty. All taxe s not paid as stated will
be subject to penalties as provided by law:
January 1st to May 1st, 1930, one per cent, will be added.
Executions will be placed in the hands of the Sheriff for collection af
ter May 1st, 1930.
When writing for amount of taxes, be jure and give school district if
property is in more than one school district.
