Doctor Howie, one of three dele
gates from the Unltefl States to the
first meeting of the‘newly organized
institute, wats designated hy the Na
tional Geographic society. He Is chief
of the division of geodesy of the Unit
ed States coast and Geodetic survey
nnd a world famous authority on Isos-
tasy.
Charting Potential Resources.

formation constitute the framework of
further surveys of forest, mineral,
plant, animal, water power and other
forms of potential wealth, the speaker
explained.
“Therefore the engineers nnd other'
leaders in Industry are making their
wants knowu in regard to topographic
mapping,” he continued. “It has truly
been said that only a rich nation can
afford Jo develop Its natural resources
*nd Its Industries without previously
having executed the topographic sur
veying and mapping. Thus are avoided
wasteful mistakes of the past In road
building and railway construction hy
routes which are circuitous and in
' areas which have not the latent re
sources or are too far from markets
to be profitable.
A major program of the Institute is
the co-ordination of topographic sur
vey* already made Independently; nnd
stimulation of mapmnklng programs
of the governments themselves.
Another Imperative demand for mnp-
iplng of hitherto unexplored areas
arises from the commercial air
plane lines. Doctor Howie said, for
! airplanes now are using routes over
tracts which know neither the high
way nor the steel rail.
“We have heard much In recent de
cades of the application of scientific
< principles to agriculture and other
1 great Industries In exchange of good*
j and In communication,” Doctor Howie
i said. “But science can only go a cer
tain distance towards bettering the
.condition of humanity and making
’civilisation nobler without having
geographic facts. It Is here that the
geographer must supplement the work
of the physicist, the chemist, and the
'engineer. For without geographical In
formation nnd background the other
sciences cannot he efficiently employer!

employ a carrier to perform a trip,
one way from Blackville to Spring-
field, six times a week, for the trans
portation of first-clss mail, newspa
pers and specially handled pacel post
mail, the carrier to leave Blackville
at 8 a. m. and arrive at Springfield by
8:30 a. m., effective November 25.

III. The Place of God’s Word In

where and under all circumstances.
(3) It was to be bound upon the
hand and placed as frontlets between
the eyes (v. 8).
(4) It was to be written upon the
posts of the houses (v. 9).
IV. Ths Early Training of the Child
(II Tim, 1:3-5; 3:14. 15).
Timothy was taught the Scriptures
from his childhood by a godly mother
nnd grandmother. The Holy Spirit
uses the Word of God in the salvation
' of children as welt aa adults.
V. Christ a Guest In the Home
(Luke 24:28-32).
At the urgent invitation of certain

VI. Mutual Relation of the Mem

Each member has certain rights
and privileges which must be re

and admonition of the Lord. Servants
are to be obedient to their musters
and to render service os unto the Lord.
Masters are to show consideration to
their servants, since they themselves
are servants to the heavenly Master.
