pearing in the June 29 number of The
Journal of the American Medical As
sociation.
While The Jourr ally naturally does
rot in terms sllude to South Carolina’s
movement, its editorial asserts in un
mistakable fashion the principle upor

deficiency of iodine in the diet is the
chief factor in the etiology of simple
thryroid enlsrgemer t.” This view,
says The Journal, “has become well
established, by repeated demonstra
tions of prophylaxis and cures, both in
experimental animals ar d in man."
Moreover, The Journal, while corced-
ing that “attention was definitely
fixed" upor the role of iodine by Bau
mann’s discovery in 1895, reminds the
profession that “iodine-containir g ma
terials, such as sea salt and the ashes
of sponges a> d of sea weed are ancient
remedies for simple goiter.”
Nor is it simple goiter alone that is
referable to a deficiency of iodine in
the food, for to this deficiency,

dine” is “small,” and “the mode of ac
tion of iodire in the organism is not
entirely clear,” the dependence of the
healthy human body upon iodine sup
ply is quite well proved; and r.o better
metns of maintair ing that supply is
known than through the corsumption
of foods high in iodine-content.

' wealth of Southern smilax and beauti
ful blossoms carrying out the color
motif of pir.k and green. The altar
decorations were palms and ferns with
pink gladioli gracefully arranged in
tall floor baskets. Silver candelabra
cast a soft glow over the scene.
Mrs. J. P. McNatt rendered a beau
tiful program of prenuptial music, as
sisted by Mis« Ora Lee, violinist, and
Mrs. Maxwell Smith and Dr. R. D. Mc

yoke effect of princess lace was out
lined ir seed pearls. The skirt, also
trimmed in the lace and pearls, was
fashioned short in the front, reaching
to ankle lergth in the hack. The veil
of misty tull and princess lace fell ir
long graceful folds from a bandeau of
orange blossoms. Her slippers were
of white satin with small clusters of
orar ge blosoms and princess lace. She
carried a lovely bouquet of bride’s
roses and valley lilies tied with silver
ribbons.
Immediately following the ceremony
the bride’s mother, Mrs. E. M. Godwin,
entertained at a lovely reception at
her home. The bride’s table was love
ly, having for its central decoration
a thiee tiered wedding cake resting
on a pink crystal standard surrounded
by pink crystal candlesticks with burr
ing white tapers, showered with ribbon
and lilies of the valley.
The bride’s travelirg costume was
a smart ensemble of beige crepe with
transpare.it velvet coat and accessories
to match.
The bride is the youngest daughter
of Mrs. E. M. Godwin and is a young
lady of fasciraiing charm. Sbe at
tended Brer.au College, specializing in
oratory.
Mr. Ellis is the son of Dr. ard Mrs.
E. W. Ellis, of Dunbarton, S. C., ard
