TEST COTTON SEE
FOR GERMINATION
Many sampIesTof cotton seed are
now being tested for germination. We
find that many of the seed shoV only
about 50 per cent, or below. These
seed should not be planted. E. D.
PeacoclCs seed before cleaning showed
58 pef cent, after cleaning 73 per
centy These seed were much benefited
by/ getting out so many seed that
ould not germinate.
The Northern part of the State has
good seed but they do not have to
plant wilt-resistant varieties to any
extent. Practically no Dixie Tri
umph is for sale and very few Super-
Seven, at the same time it is necessary
to plant wilt resistant seed on a large
percentage of the land in this county.
This makes a very unfortunate situa
tion.
Very good Cleveland Big Boll cot
ton seed can be bought for about $1.00
to $1.25 per bushel and freight. Farm
ers are urged’ eo buy a supply of plant
ing seed at an early date. If seed of
about 60 per cent germination are
osed, two bushels should be planted to
secure a stand-—Prepared by H. G.
Boylston, County Agent.

This is the time of year when serious Aid troubles,
such as deep chest colds, bronchitis, and pneumonia are
always at their worst.
Just now, with so many people in the weakened condi
tion that follows a flu attack, it is more important than
ever to heed every cold as a danger signal and check it
promptly before complications can set in.
Qmlek DSroet
At the first sign of a cold, melt some Vicks in a bowl
of hot water and, inhale its healing vapors. Also place
some up each nostril and snuff well back. This quickly
opens the air passages.
At bedtime, rub Vicks vigorously over throat and chest
and cover with a warm flannel Most coids yield over
night to Vicks two-fold action:
a Ways at
(1) Its medicated vapors, released by the warmth of
the body, are inhaled direct to the inflamed air passages,
loosening the phlegm and easing the difficult breathing.
(2) At the same time, Vicks acts through the skin like
a poultice, “drawing out” tightness and soreness, and
thus helping the vapors to break up the congestion.
Mothers especially appreciate this simple
external treatment because it cannot up
set children’s delicate stomachs, as too '•
much “dosing” is so apt to do.
