REST
Rest is the cure of many com
plaints—and is within the reach of
every man and woman; the trouble
is, we do not treat the subject with
intelligence.
Since my last letter toi this pa
per, I note the deaths of two dis
tinguished men; one a statesman
nationally known, 65—and the
other a politician of state-wide no
toriety. 67. Both endowed with
all that make for long life; neither
knew how to rest. Neither of
these men used the muscular body
one hour out of the twenty-four;
both burned the nerve-candle to
the vanishing-point. Neither knew
the meaning of mental or digestive
rest. The newspaper diagnosis
was, of course, “heart disease.”
When shall we learn that, the
nervous and digestive systems are
the universally overwrought of the
body? Our digestive apparatus,
which is really governed by the
nerves, needs rest, must have it:
otherwise, food swallowed is ab
sorbed without digesting, hence Ts '
at once poisonous to the heart and
brain. A spurt of protracted over-
mental-wofk, and, the curtain goes
down.. Heart-disease!!!
Some men practically never al
low the nervous system to rest;
especially is this true of the more
brilliant of men and women. They
lowe work—revel in accomplish
ment, and—die before their time.
Eating too much and, toiling .with
the brain incessantly,* affords the
most certain passport to the great
beymi. /; k*-
The average worker, whether
with brain or brawn, invariably
receives ample warning of the dan
ger ahead: a nervous system that
will stand six hours of activity,
will crack at ten or twelve. The
neart is driven and regulated by
-.nerves—4he digestive system also
**‘tfroted by the same force. If
•U the nerve energy is eKoended
oa the business, there will he a
deficiency left to digest the oork-

A Word With
the Old Folks
Elderly People Are Learning Importance
of Qood Elimination.
I N the later years of life there Is
apt to be a slowing up of the
bodily functions. Good elimination,
however, is just as essential to the
old as to the young. Many old folks -
have learned the value of Doan's
Pille when a stimulant diuretic to
the kidneys is required. Scanty oc
* ■ burning passages of kidney secre
tions are often signs of improper kid
ney function. In most every com
munity are scores of users and en
dorsers who acclaim the merit of
Doan's. Aekyour neighbor!
