Among the many wonderful teach
ers I have known who deserve men
tion at ’this point, I have no reluc
tance to specify Sene among the
group who without - question has
recognition with me as being the
best teacher I have ever known. My
own dear Father claims such recog
nition.
I remember how, very early Wi my
teens, he used to say to me, and to
my other brothers, simply these words,
“Buys, I mean to set for you a liv
ing example, and to the extent that
you see me engage in certain activi
ties of life, you have my permission
to follow.” Father has succeeded.
All through the years since my teens
these seemingly immortaO words have
resounded in my heart. They have
called me. again and again from the
mires of rin.
Father didn’t say these words simp
ly to hear himself talk, but he verified
the value of them in his every action.
He practiced what he preached. I
could never hope for a greater exam
ple, in real life, than that one exhibit
ed by Father. No man who is worthy
of such recognition in the eyes of his
own children will be disappointed as
to their success in life. Character, as
charity and other virtues, must have
it® genesis in the home. The young
life must have a guide, and who is apt
to be able to serve best in this capacity
than those closest to us in our home,
our parents? t
I expect if Mother had lived, she
would have coincided her thoughts and
determination with that of Father.
She died when I was only too small to

Thoroughbred Hornet
The bureau of animal industry says
fhat as far back us it knows there
are no race-track regulations requir
ing that only thoroughbreds enter a
race. However, a horse that Is not a
thoroughbred, unless lie Is exceptional,
would stand little, chance against a
horse whd has been bred fronx^raclng
ancestors. Thoroughbred horses hi
this country are registered solely on
the thoroughhredness of thelc nhces-
tors. Registration in a thoroughbred
society necessitates that both the sire
and the dam be registered or eligible
for registration In the society, which
means that their sire and dam were
registered. ~ ~— T -
