Five negroes were arrested by city
and county officer* Saturday and Sun
day on charge* of violating the prohi-
bition law. Policemen Rosa and

Peeples arrested D. A. Gillis ard
William Odom Saturday afternoon,

the former, it is alleged, having liquor
in a suitcase, while the latter had a
pint bottle in his pocket. Sunday,
Sheriff Dyche* and his deputy raided
Gillis’ home and found a quantity of
liquor in his possession. The officers
went on to Elko, where they also
arrested Golie Bush, Arthur Jentfns
and Lang Roland on charges of stor
ing liquor.

Lewis Weathersbee, a young whit?
man who is serving a sentence of one
year on the gang for larceny, took
“French leave'’ Saturday night and
up to Monday had not been appre
hended by the authorities. Westhers-
bee, it is understood, drove a ootir f y
truck into Barnwell Saturday night
for some supplies and when he fail
ed to return to the gang, a search
was started. The truck was found
abandoned on one of the streets but
Weathersbee had made good his es
cape. It is reported that he was seen
in a Ford coupe Sunday evening on
the Barnwell-Allendale highway.
