to July 3rd, to be known as ’Cotton
Goods Week,' and have requested that
I issue a proclamation calling upon
the people of the State to so observe
said week; and
“Whereas, I am heartily in sym
pathy with, and believe I an) repre
senting the people of the State in
furthering this movement;
“Now, therefore, I, Thomas G. Mc
Leod, governor of the State of South
(Carolina, do hereby call upon the
people of South Carolina, tlf observe
the week of June 28th to July 3rd as
‘Cotton Goods Week’ and I call es
pecially upon the women of - South
Carolina to observe the week by wear
ing only cotton dresses, underwear
„nd cotton stockings during that time,
with the idea of continuing this ob
servance as far es possible, and for
the reason that the example thus set
will be reflected in the increased de
mand fo: cotton goods which will he
for the benefit of the operatives of
the mills of the State and the own
ers thereof, and ultimately incrAse
the price of the raw cotton produced
by the farmers; »t the same time, set
ting an example in economy of dress
which likewise will contribute to the
resources of the commonwealth in
results.

Coleman-McCullen.
Oiar, June 20.—Wednesday after
noon at 2 o’clock at the beautiful
old Kearse home near Olar, Mrs.
Robert Kearse gave in marriage her
granddaughter, Emma Coleman to
Julian Bryan McCullen, of Kingston,
N. C. Just before the bridal party en
tered Miss Carrie Brabham, of Waiter-
boro sang “When You Are Truly
Mine”; then as Miss Louise Keat-se
began the weeding march little
Grace Kearse a nd Maxine Walker,
candle bearers, entered the living
room, the end of which had been
banked with ferns and pink hydran
geas. Next came, the bride with her
maid of honor. Miss Norma Brabham,
of Walterboro, who^vere met by the
bridegroom and his best man Cecil
Moore, also of "Kingston.
As th* Rev. Pritchard Chewing
performed the ceremony, the. bride
and bridegroom stood beneath a huge
wedding bell, which had served many
other brides of the family.
Mr. and Mrs. McCullen left immed
iately after the ceremony for Phila
delphia, whwe they will attend the
exposition, the bride traveling in h
dark blue Irene Castle crepe with
accessories to match.
Tuesday evening preceeding the
wedding Mrs. Kearse entertaained the'
bridal party, inviting relatives and
trier.ds from the surrounding coun
try and towns. The guests were wel
comed by Mesdames G. J. Wescoat
and Bertha K. Walker, who introduc
ed them to the receiving line, com
posed of Mrs. Robert Kearse, Dr. J.
F. Coleman, father of the bride, Miss
Erma Coleman, Julia B. McCullen.

rear hall the Ehrharda orchestra
rendered beautiful selections.

sisted by Misses Virginia Miller,
Mary Neeley and Margaret LeFere.
