m Many Trae Bills Retimed by the Grand Jury and a Number of Cases Dispaecd «f. The May term of / the Court of j General Sessions for Barnwell County convened here Monday morning with j Judge Hayre F. Rice, of Aiken, pre siding. A number of true bills were I returned by the Grand Jury and very good progress has been made in the j trial of cases. The following is a j list of the cases disposed of up to the time The People-Sentinel closed its| forms: Cases Disposed of. I' *"*" Oscar StToman, charged with as sault and battery with intent to kill and carrying concealed weapons, was found guilty of simple assault and carrying concealed weapons. General Green, charged with house breaking and larceny, pleaded guilty to housebreaking and petit larceny. \E. T. Bates was acquitted of the r of Jim Foose, colored, of Mr. Bates was policeman at :o at the time* of the homicide and killed the negro in the discharge of his duty. In the case of John Allen Bunyan*- Lloyd Bunyan and Olivia, Bunyan, the former was convicted of manufactur ing whiskey and the two last named were found not guilty Oscar Strom an was convicted of Ugson with recommendaticm to the mercy of the Court. Walter Thomas, charged with sauk and battery with intent to kill, found guilty of assault and bat tery of a high & nd aggravated nature; directed verdict of not guilty of car rying concealed weapons. A. < Calhoun, of Appleton. His wife preceded Mm to the grave about three years ago. Find That Death of Benny Berry Was Dae to Accidental Na Other The following is the Presentment of the Grand Jury which Tuesday afternoon upon the com pletion of their work for the present term'of the Court of General Ses sions: To tho Honorable Hayne F. Rice, Presiding Judge of the Court of Gen eral Sessions: The Grand Jury of Barnwell Coun ty begs leave to report as follows: First: We have paused upon all indictments handed us by the Solici tor and have returned them to the Court. Second: We have visited the County Home and hive investigated affaire there. We fipd the same in :ood condftfau- ai cared for and satisfied. Third: We have had a visit the County Chain Jail. We find them being run in satisfactory manner. Fourth: We were called upon to make an investigation into the death of one Benny Bony. * We have, there fore, called before us a large number of witnesses and have carefully in vestigated the death of the young man. As a result of our investiga Hon we have oome to the conclusion that boa death was purely accidental. If by chance his death was caused otherwise, we have been unable to get any evidence to fix the blame on anyone. Fifth: Our committee appointed to investigate the different County offices is not ready to make its re port at this time, but a full report will be made by our body at the next tSrm of Court / We have requested tha County Treasurer to get up for us certain reports and information and for him to have the same ready for our consideration at the'next'term of Court He has kindly consented to get this information up for us and same wfll be considered by ua at our next} meeting and the result of this investigation published. We wish to thank the Presiding Judge and the officers of the Court for their kind consideration during eur deliberations.
