The State jrovernment ppends some*
thinft over one million dollars a year
on Salaries for it* officer*—constitu
tional and bureaucratic—more than the
total amount appropriated by the
State not sd' many years ago. We
believe that a substantial saving can
be made in this item. We do not be-
lit Je that extrava|gence in the State
government is confined to this one
item alone and that .substantial *ave
ings can be effected all along the
line.
In the past the politicians have
told us that the burden of taxation
was the result of county extravagancy
and to prove their point cited the
measley little five or 5V4 mills State
levy in comparison with the 4() or HO
mills cdunty levy. They neglected,
however, to point out the fact that a
Irrge part of the revenue derived by
the State cornea from taxes on ga.xo-
line, soft drink*, etc.
Is it unreasonable to suppose or to
ask, if a little more economy is prac
tised by the State government
vfftether or not some part of that
money that is now needed so badly
to defray the expenses of State gov
ernment would be available to help
reduce the heavy levies on real es
tate necessary to support the county
govdrnmdnt? In other words, if
the State should practice strict econ
omy, would not .a part of ^ oe9 on lhe w « r P ath -
tax money be available for the u j p
M the Countitf v/lth n consequent re
duction in the local li vy on roil an*?

Water vs Paint!
The most durable* finish ever put

to withstand “home washing” methods
Sponge* and chamois in which Micro-

soon wear away that beautiful mir

the damage. Yet the car must be

So there is only one safe way—let
