liston had a delightful time last
Tuesday afternoon, the occasion be-
iq^the eighth anniversary of this
yuBg lady’s birthday. Various games
were played after which delightful
refreshments were served.
Charming in every detail was the
party given Tuesday night by Mr.
and Mrs. W. C. .Smith, Jr., at their
attractive home on Railroad avenue
at which time they entertained the
night bridge club. •
Before the game a delicious tur
key dinner was served. At the close
of the evening it was found that
M iss Burnette received the high score
prize, a box of Coty’s powder, and
Mr. J. A. Kennedy a deck of cards.
The Thomas Flourony Chapter, U.
S. D., 1812, was delightfully enter
tained last Saturday, January 23rd,
at the home of Mrs. Q. A. Kennedy,
Sr. The meeting was preceeded by
a six course luncheon at which Mrs.
Leroy H. Hafbernicht, State' .Presi
dent of the daughters, was honor
guest. At a beautifully appointed
table covers were laid for the mem
bers. At the business meeting which
followed Mrs. Habenicht gave a most
interesting account of the work be
ing done by the daughters in the
chapters throughout the State. The
Chapter had the pleasure of adding
Mrs. W. H. Manning to their roll.

A most enjoyable evening was
spent Thursdajf at the home of Mrs.
Eugene Buckingham, where the an
nual U. D. C. reception was held.
The guests consisted qf residents of
Ellenton and teachers of the neigh
boring communities. A joint pro
gram celebrating Jackson’^ and Lee’s
birthday was carried out. Prof Law
rence Peebles and Mrs. Eugene Buck
ingham were the chief speakers of
the occasion. Readings appropriate
for the occasion were rendered by
Misses Carrie Jean Ashley in cos
tume and Reba Thorn. Music was
furnished by Misses Grace Walton,
Lilia Bush and Marion Taylor. Punch
and sandwiches were served to about
60 guests.
The Laura Jones tircle of the Bap
tist church met with Mrs. C. J.
Tho-me Wednesday afternoon.
