of the work done last year in Ban^

Barnwell County during 1925 has
had &ix women’s clubs,'six girl’s clubs
and a county council of farm women
composed * of members of the six
womenis clubs. There is a work be
ing carried on in a majority of the
communities in the county.
Besides the regular club work, mis
cellaneous work in the county has
bew done along all lines of work.
The agent has had the endorsement,
The backing and the co-operation of
all organized bodies in the County,
and in return has given her full co
operation.

' As in all counties, the women,
guided by the agent, chose their pro
gram work for .the year.
.The County Council *has had its
two regular wejl attended . meetings
during the year.
The Poultry Club work has been
outstanding. Over eight hundred
'800) birds have been culled. Five
contestants entered the State Pen

vin recently returned from a visit

Columbia.

Springfield, Jan. 23.—The Commer
cial hotel Vas a lively scene Satur
day afternoon whei\ little Miss Harry
Vivian Porter entertained at a birth
day party. The little folks brought
useful gifts and enjoyed playing
games. Ira Gleatoh rendered several
piano selections. Delightful refresh
ments were served. .
The eighth grade of the Springfield
High school enjoyed $ “wienie roast”
Wednesday night. Members of the
faculty chaperoned.
Mrs. Hurbert Fanning and little
son of Laurens visited relatives here
last week.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Gleaton had
their weekrend guests, Misses
Mrs. E. T. Spigner and Mrs. R. L.
Zeigler were at home to their respec
tive, circles of the missionary society
Monday afternoon, on which occasion
reports were given on assignments in
the mission study book.
Mrs. Edward Bridie gave a prelcy
party Friday afternoon, the occasion
being the meeting of. the Book £lub,
of which she is a member. As the
c’ub had not met for several weeks
the' meeting was an especially en
thusiastic one. Following a discussion
and exchange of books the hostess,
assisted by her sister, Mrs. George
Turner, served tempting refresh-

Mrs. Curtis Fanning is in Atlanta,
where she -Wax talled by the illness
of Mrs. Odom Fanning.
Mrs. Fred McCrae of Knoxville is
Crae. Mrs.. McCrae and her guest,
Mrs, Frank Sturgeon, and Mrs. T. P.

McCrae motored to Augusta Wednes

Mr. and Mh. Shel’ey Williams of
Norway were week-end guests of Mr.
and Mrs. S. G. Mayfield.
Mrs. Micah Pate and little daugh
ter of Goldsboro, N. C. t have re
turned home after a visit of several
weeks with Mrs. Pate’s parents^
and Mrs. George Hope.
Mrs, B. H. Jordan and little daugh
ter have returned from a visit of
several days with Mrs. Jordan’s par
ents in Manning.
ifrs. S. 8. Ray spent a day in Col
umbia during the early part of the
weft.. Mrs. Buie is" in the hospital
there.
Miss Huggins* the new first grads
teacher is from Columbia.
There was a called meeting at the
Parent-Teachers association Friday
afternoon.
S. D. Guyton, formerly of Honda
Vomer, is the manager of the Nash
Automobile agency at this point. Mr.
Guytoi| will be joined here in the
near future by Mrs. Guyton and the
children.

The Yeast bread work among girls

Millinery still holds a prominent
:>lace in the interest of club women.
Sixty-five hats were made during the
ear. The agent has rendered valu-
hie assistance in selecting new and
•etter patterns, in helping to plan
*.he family budget, in renovation of
garments, etc.*
The work done by the three women
ntering the State Better Kitchen
Contest has been good, besides in
stalling sinks, drain boards, made
- - abinets, shelves, etc., two have had
unning water put in their kitchens
.ind walls and ceilings whitewashed.
In spite of the dry weather the
women report conserving 6,140 quarts
• f canned goods. A large quanity of
neat is cured and used. An effort is
)«eing made to reduce meat consump
tion, and induce the housekeepers to
me more fresh vegetables. A market
1 >r club women was opened on Au
gust 1st, and the sales from same
have been very. good. r
