. after a Ion; illness home with pa*

yearr. old amT was bom on the Menta
tion of Dr. Pyke Brown, brother of
Mrs. Julia Elasterling. / \ll through
life he spoke in the most affectionate
terms of “our white people" and
seined to think that the principles of
truth, honor and justice that he ad
hered to were due to his early train-,
ing in the Brown home. He leaves
four children—Nancy Wright, of
Florida, Fred and Oliver Brooks, Of
Georgia, and Wesley Brooks, ol Ram-
wtfflil. His funeral was held at the
Bethlehem Baptist Church, his pas
tor preaching a sermon appropriate
to th£ good life that was ended. He
was a member of several lodges. * Hi?
body was laid to rest ‘neath the
moss-covered pines in the colored
cemetery, his grave being covered
with a canopy of rare flowers, placed
there by “our children,” as he called
the members of the Simms family,
Whom he served so fatihfully for 27
yeartT “Uncle Wesley"., will always
be coated their most loyal friegd.
i Many have said that Uncle Wesley
was a man in every sense of the
word. He was' Ithtrliable, always
considerate of the feelings of every
one, kind to animals, and had an abso-
Jttte Jyojrroip of a thief, a.^kr and a

hypocrite, denouncing the guilty one
in no wCdtte.ii terrrr,- The most
splendid thing about this good man
was his faith in the Master and the
good influence he exerted over
others by this faith. Living as he
did, he was ready at any time, he
said for the Great Journey, and longed
for the reunion with relatives and
friends gone before.
We feel that the spirit of “Uncle
Wesley” Is happy and free in God’s
world above and that his life has be-
