Louise Tutcn, IJ year old daughter
of Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Tuten of Fair
fax, died at fi o’eloek yesterday after
noon at the Baptist hospital in Col
umbia. The little girl had been fatal
ly burned at her parent's home Sat
urday morning when her gown caught
fire as she was standing before' an
open grate.
The f&wn caught in the front and
the flumes, before they could he ex
tinguished, covered nearly one-third
of the child’s body with burns. - '
The funeral ' party escorting the
l»ody of the young girl left Columbia
last night, accompanied by Dr. and
Mrs. Tuten, both of whose hands were
burned in extinguishing the blaze
that proved fatal to their daughter.
Funeral services will be held at Fair
fax some time today.
Relating the details of the tragedy
last night, Dr. Tuten said that Louise
arose rather early the morning after
Christmas and as soon as the cook
had made u flic in the bedroom. Ac
companied by her three younger
brothers the young girl went up to.

Christmas presents which had lieen
given her and her brothers. v She had
not dressed but was still in her night
gown.
She reached up- to get a present
from the mantlepiece. A door to the
room was open and as she stood up
on her toes to reach the article the

the grate.

Harry Lane, his six year old son,
awoke hhn. He opened his eye*, only
to see the clothes of his daughter a
mass of flames.* He gut up topd in
the meantime the screams of his son
had attracted his wife. Within five
seconds’ time. Dr. Tuten said, he and
Mra. Tuten had extinguished the
blase hut not until the fire had se-
vetely banted his daughter.

bia, remaining by her bedside until

Louise was the <bily daughter and
the oldest child of Dr. and Mrs.
Tuten. She is also survived by three
younger brothers, Alva, nine, Wilbur,
Jr., eight, and Harry Lane, six.
