Husband Kills Wife
and Shoots Himself
Orangeburg, Dec. 21.—Mrs. Dora
B. Way, prominent in local politics,
s»as shot and killed today by, it is
I'lleged, her husband, Allerf W*y, at
their home in the lower part of
Orangeburg County. Way then shot
himself twice and is now in a serious
condition ajt the city hospital here.
After shooting his wife with a pis
tol, Way turned the weapon, upon
himself but a son, Allen, Jr., grap-
, tiled with him in an effort to pre-
i vent him killing himself. He in-
ricted a serious “wound, however, and
!ater secured a shotgun which he
*>red into his right shoulder.
A dispute about the sale of some
turkeys brought on a quarrel be
tween the couple, according to in
formation received here. Way was
tlaced under quard «at the hospital
-vhere he is receiving medical care.
Allen Way, Jr., a married son, took
the younger children to his home.
Mrs. Way had twice been a candi
date for the Legislature, and was
active in public affairs generally.
Her father, Dr. W. S. Barton, was
prominent in South Carolina affairs
uring the Tillman era of the nine
ties, when he was a State Senator.
A WONDERFUL OIM’OHTUNITY
will be afforded to the people of Barn
well County for a long time to come,
4s it is the best investment ever yet
offered them.

Finds Wedding Ring.
While working in his yard a few
days ago, Capt. G. M. Main, Barnwell
County’s efficient jailer, dug up an
eighteen-karat gold wedding ring,
which apparently had been lost for a
long time. The following inscription
was engraved on the inside: “E. A.
W. to A. L.” Capt Main will be glad,
of course, to return the' ring to its
rightful owner.

On the 30th of December (next’
Wednesday evening) ah opportunity
> f unusual importance will be offered
•> the people of Barnwell County,
‘.Arough the enterprise and good taste
•f the manager of the Vamp Theatre.
On that evening we are to offered
"The Bohemian Girl,” by a company
f artists whose rendition of the
great opera will be throughly ade-
uate in Vvei y respect. Anyone who
wns a graph >phone or Virtrola has,
with out doubt . listened to many
selections from this musical master^
niece, as it is perhaps, the most popu-
«r of alj the operas. To miss hear-
ng it on this opportunity will be a
great loss, and the occasion is one
where we might well deny ourselves
MTV jnany other entertainments
’nther than mjss “The Bohemian Girl”
*TTve opera is highly educational in . a
musical way and everyone, including
Uoys and girls of 12 years and up.-
•■vard, should use every effort within
their reach to hear it. The music is
especially tuneful and often intrigu-
',ng and never fails to captivate.
Y^iu would better cut out several
meals a week from your usual diet
ary, and put the saving in a ticket
the Vamp Theatre next Wednes
day evening than fail to be there.
You may be sure the money so
spSpt will prove an investment pay
ing interest in pleasure during the
balance of your life. Like all suc
cessful operas it supplies you with
a standard by which to judge music,
so that, after hearing a few of these
prodigies of musical genius and skill
and cheap, ephemeral, so-called mus
ic loses its flavor and ceases to in
;«rest you: you may then count
yourself on the high road to ad
miration and enjoyment of the real
thing. You are po longer misled
by false gods) but sustained by
the faith and knowledge of the true
interpretation of the Spirit of Mus
ic. You, some degree, at least
become shhret and co-partner in
its interpretation.
Being of the flesh, all of our sen
sations, ambitions, aspirations come
up through the senses, and therefore
everything we touch or do is neces
sarily sensual. Music, the most
elevating of the arts, is thoroughly
sensual, but it touches on the spirit
ual at many points, and is really the
bridge connecting earth with Heaven,
by which the great aspirations of the
soul reach the celestial boundaries
and scale the defending heights.
Therefore. I repeat that a ticket to
the Vamp next Wednesday night is
the very greatest iovestmsnt that
