When elected president, Judge Mel
drim had this to say of the Georgia
State Agricultural Society: “It Wat
formed In 1810 by a group of far-aee-
Ing v and broad-minded men, and this
is the oldest organization of its kind
today in the United States. There has
been much in its history to encour
age, and when 1 looked into’the-con
stitution of that society as it was orig
inally ordained. 1 was both gratified
and surprised at the liberality and
vision of the men who formed it; The
object of this society is to obtain and
diffuse informal ion pertaining to ag
riculture. manufacture.- mechanics
livestock, horticulture and other in
dustries of the people of Georgia, so
that those wise men without regard
to their own iailing's had the vision
to take in practically every activity
of the slate."
