Blume, of Aiken, are visiting the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mcs. E. E. Morris. Mrs. Charlie Brown, Sr., enter tained the Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club last week. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar A. Brown and little daughter spent Sunday in Aiken with the former’s father. Miss Ethel Mace has returned to Barnwell after a visit to friends in Bamberg. Mr. Allen Miles, of Orangeburg, was a~ business visitor here one day last week. Miss Virginia Moseley has re turned home after a pleasant visit to Asheville, N. C. “Mrs. Lizzie M. Cgyj? is. expected home this week after an extended tour of Europe. Mr. Warren Calhoun and little tiaughter, of BishopvUle, were the guests of relatives here this week. Quite a number of the younger set attended a dance in Allendale Wed nesday night of last week. Mrs. E. J. DeCosta has returned to her home in Columbia after a visit to her father. Dr. A. B. Patterson. ~ Mr. G. M. Neeley, of the Denmark Buick Co., was in the city Monday demonstrating one of the new Buick cars. Mrs. Minnie Calhoun is in a Colum bia hospital for treatment. Her many friends hope for her early re turn. __ Lieut. George H; Kirkland Jr., of Mississippi, was the guest of his aunt, Miss Emma Kirkland, for a short while Sunda^ while en route to Fort Moultrie. His father, who is a native of Barnwell, is one of the largest cotton farmers in Mississ ippi, his crop this year being esti mated at 1,000 bales. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Hazel, of John ston, were visitors here for a short while Monday afternoon, en route bo their home after a visit in and around Allendale. Mr. Hazel has been edi tor of The Johnston Herald for some time, but it ifc understood that he has sold his interest in the paper fcnd ex pects to go to Florida. Misses The People-Sentinel. Mr. and Mrs. J. G Scott and chil dren, of Augusta, spent Sunday with Mrs. Scott’s mother, Mrs. J. F. Grubbs. Attorneys Edgar A. Brown and Thos. M. Boulware were called to Orangeburg Tuesday on professional business^ “ - : Miss Agnes Hiers. formerly of thisj city but now a resident of Arcadia, Fla. - , is one of the new subscribers to The People Sentinel this week. In a letter received from her this week, she writes as follows: “I am sending you herewith check- for $1.50 for one year’s subscription to The Barnwell People-Sentinel. Please let it start /with next week’s issue if possible, as I miss the paper so much down here.” Miss Hiers also writes that Miss Jemmie Wise, who made Barnwell her home for several months, is liv ing at Arcadia. Traffic Routed Through Town. Local radio fans will be interested 'in the announcement that Harry Snodgrass, famous radio entertainer who won the title “King of the Ivor- fes” while he was a prisoner in the State Penitentiary at Jefferson City, Mb., will once more broadcast for his admirers throughout the country. The date as anounced by station WOAI is August 23rd and the place is San Antonio, Texas. The exact hour is not known, but those who wish to hear him may get* the time by tuning in on San Antonio a day or two be fore the 23rd. * * assn Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Lemon and daughters, together with Terrill Parker, return ed on Tuesday from a stay of two weeks near Columbus, Ga, V Automobile traffic over Highway No. 1, from Columbia to Savannah, will be routed through the business section of Barnwell, turning into Main Street at Marlboro Avenuej thence down Burr Street and out by the- Atlantic Coast Line Depot.- This will give travelers an opportunity of seeing,a part of both the residential and business diotrictn and will also * allow them to replenish their'suppy of gasoline and oil at local filling sta tions and make siyh other purchases as they may need.
