The Tax on cosmetics was placed
on the people of the State by the”
l&st legislature.
The special relief commission
consisting of only six men has re
duced this tax from 20 per cent, to
4 per cent.
This tax should never have
been put on and those in authority
now have tried to correct the .evil.-
*>■
We congratulate them on their
admission of the mistake.
x
Does anyone think for one
moment that Soft Drinks are more
of a luxury than cosmetics?
You, the consumers of Soft
Drinks, are now paying one-fifth
of the entire tax for general State
purposes.
x ■■ r '
Total tax for general purposes,
exclusive of education, is $6,500,-

Drink tax $1,500,000.00.
*>
Who pays th%~ tax on Soft
Drinks? 70 per cent, is paid by
working people and children.
a matter of fact they are not a
4uxury, but if they are, do you
want to tax the working people
and children 20 per cent, on one of
the few luxuries they have?
A $10,000.00 piece of real es
tate or farm land is usually as-'
sessed at $1,000.00 on which the
State tax for general purposes is
$5.50. X.
If you drink two Soft Drinks
per day, you pay $7.30 which is
$1.80 more than a man pays who
owns $10,000.00 worth of prope-
erty. This does not include tax
you are paying on.cosmetics and
