Phillips, arrived in Easley June 2'd, and was laid to rest on the 5th ' in ~the Mt. Carmel cemetery. Rev. H. H. Mace conducted the funeral in the pres ence of a large crowd of relatives and friends. People from far and near came to take the last look on the beautiful casket, draped with a U. S. flag. We want to thanks the people for so many pretty flowers that cov ered the young soldier~s grave. The boys that served overseas acted as pall bearers. There were many other young soldiers present and the way they acted meant we still stand by you after death. When James left his home on the 124th of May, 1918, he said, "Mother, don't worry about me. I am going .through the war and coming back home to you if it's God's will." But on the 8th of November, 1918, God called at the hospital over in France and said, James, I came to take you home to live in peace, where thene will be no more war. We cannot. see why God called him from us just. in t.he bloom of life. but God's will must be done. We often think of this: "Greater love has no man than this: to lay lown him own life for his country." He has gone to a fairer land of pleasure and love to join the bright band angels above.
