RHODE ISLAND -: LECTLI Eggs, setting fLr per 15. Ordinary at w.( A few pUllet.; fo Best strain of RE MRS. J. D. YOUNG, TURNER FINED IN EASLEY COURT T riM .f( West Greenville ?peed Cop Attracts Large Crowd. Still) 'Turner, speed cop and police of West Greenville, was finled $25 or 30 <days in the mayor's court in Eas Icy Tuesday afternoon for speeding on tl streets of Easley. The trial attracted considerabl( attention and more than three hours was taken to hear the evidence and argument. Turner was represented by J. Robert Martin, of Greenville, fornier solicitor of this circuit. Much conflicting evidence was offered at the trial. Witnesses for the (efense swore that. on the night Turner is al leged to have violated the speed or dinances in Easley that he was pr forming his ollicial duties in West Greenville. Turner himself swore that on the night he was charged with being in Easley that he did not set foot on Pi"kens county soil. Ii is evidence was supported by Mayor Baker, of West Greenville, and sev eral other citizens of Wst Green ville. Witness for the city of cEasley swore that on the night of April 21st, Stub Turner and B3atsot were in Nor man Gardo's restaurant and after eating a lunch they got into an auto mobile, which had no tail light and drove down East Main street at a reckless rate of speed with the cut out on. After hearing the evidence and a lengthy argument by J. Robert Mar tin for the def. nse, Mayor Allen found the defendant guilty and fined him $25 or 30 days. Verbal notice of an appeal was served. Aftor the ad I journnnt of the stockholders meet ing, State Bank lxaminer Craig said I he sa'w no reason why the Farmers I(and Merchants Baik and the Farm ers Loan and 'T'rust. Company should not be reopeiial again within the next few days. In fact. the only thing standing in th way of thea institutions opening again inuediately is that as yet it .ha; teen impossible to see all-the de positor in ur(er to secure the con ent of 95 per cent of them to leave their deposits intact for the next few nmon t hs, accepting therefor certifi cates of deposit bearing interest. No troubl is anticipated in securing the consent of 95 per cent of amount of dlepositors to accept this plan. De lay in securing the necessary number of them has been due to the fact that the ijpositors are widely scattered and will require some days to make vi-it: to the homes or places of busi ntes of all of them. In the few days that representatives of the bank have been getting signatures of depositors close at hand a total of some $560, 000 of the $780,000 involved has been signed over. This is not a great distance from the goal of 95 per cent and it is practically certain that the remaining number necessary to make the arrangement a complete success will be obtained shortly. Present at the meeting of the stockholders meeting this morning were replesentatives of three of tho large eastern creditor banks of the two institutions. These representa tives are quoted as having expressed themselves willing to extend all as sistance possible in getting the banks going again. The meeting of the stockholders was harmonious throughout and there was displayed an eagerness to see the doors of the institution opened again at the earliest possible moment. The fine spirit of co-operation dis played by the stockholders was grati fying to every one concerned, and there is every reason to balieve that the Farmers and Alerchants Bank andl the Warmers Loan and Trust con andy,- insPe.'h of Cueing by reant- ._ of' thepr nt mbras ntae A tnumbe ho f depositorIIs expressed bair iintn''n of' r'ajii money for: deposcit ini ia hank to provide a worak ing ea; ta l ndr thie re-organ nre, andi durng tisil t to t is mor ipo rt e that you do your you get )R LESS MONEY. rid complete line of e bought at the right YOU MONEY want to buy. adies' Hats arriving e in the newest and >ods Department you n'g you want and at an n's ladies' and chil.. e of mren's and boys' to corresponkd to low c lb.
