act - .rvel is achine lied at to ma Wldding A, ~~wil] ork of s. rrou gh preciate it is. It tes, sub rracts cu , , )sits and computes new balances, all in one movement of the carriage across the page, and with a speed that seems incredible. That is to say, the machine not only posts figured to the ledger page, but computes balances automat ically as the -posting is done. Error-proof "Steel Brains" And this automatic bookkeep er can't make a mistake. His "stesl brains" are mathematic ally error-proof. Depressing the keys puts figures "into" the Burroughs. Touching a bar adds or subtracts the figures and prints then in even rows. And no matter how fast or how long you feed figures into it, the ma chine never gets tired, never lets 'Trors creep im throu !h "brain fag." It has just as lively an appetite for the large nlumbers as for small. As a (epositor you mig.ht (deposit $10,000,000 tom(or row, but the machine would not have to exert itself' to enter tl amount, add yo (ol balance, subtract your chocks and auto ma tically colput- the correct lew balance of yonr acconnt. The only tine it balks is when you have an overd1ra ft. Then it w'arns the operator, by the sin pe expedient of refusing to fig .re any more without the "sub tract" lever is held lown, tha your account is overdi'a wI, an( thereupon proceeds to print recd "OD" signal opposite the amount you need to get, sqluar with the bank. H-eretofore, when posting t( the ledger, it wals necessaryV fo a list of checks and1 deposits t< be emteredl by handl in ordetr fo the bank to prop~erly deblit am credit each customer's aiccou]nt The bookkeepers had to ad< "ach list of checks mentally, al s-o had t~o add1 all deposits an< comlbinet theiri total with th< 0 customer's 0ol.balance. Whey that was done the total of al checks had to be deductedl fron the sum of old balance and~ (de posits to dletermine new balance With the machine all this is ac ':omplished automatically an without any mental calculat ioi whatever. 'The0 operator ha only to depress the proper key and touch the operating b)ar. Burroughs-posted ledgers hay many advantages that even; person not familiar with book 0 ~ keeping will recognize. As (ex plained, all figuring is (lone mc chanically, the operator hein obliged only to watch the ami ount he is entering. * 1'11fion to the spec C BOOKKEEPER can list and add a long column of figures at the sano time with speed( and with absolute alc(u racy, but the 13arroughs does it. The machine may be seen inl operation at the Keowee Bank any day. -tdy Notice of Reference To all and singular the heirs at law, distributees, legatees and devisees, if any, of Van B.
