Rorex, of Fookler, Ala., is visiting her aunt, Mrs. J. B. New bery. Little Miss Nan Newton was absent from school two days last week visiting in Oconee. Miss Sadie Nealy is enjoying her va cation after a successful year of teach ing in Martin school. John Cash, of Jocassee, accidentally shot himself in the hand last week and amputation was necessary. Will F. Alexander and Miss May Gantt, of Liberty, were married by J. B. Newbery at his residence April 28. Miss l'loride Cary, who holds a re sponsible oflice position in Atlanta, is spending some time with homefolks in Pickens. County Agent Bowen states that an other car of nitrate of soda will be re ceived in Pickens county during the month of May. Mrs. Marion V. Newton is at home again after a very pleasant two weeks' stay in Walhalla with her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Maxwell, and other rela tives in Pendleton. A' large meteor seen in this section last Tuesday evening shortly after 8 o'clock attracted considerable atten tion. It was probably the largest one ever seen here and could be seen from several states. Sydney Bruce. who spent several days at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. McD. Bruce, in Pickens last week on account of sickness, has return ed to his duties as cashier of the Citi zens Bank at Seneca. Eight white men and twenty-five ne groes were sent to Camp Jackson from Pickens county during the past week. Appropriate farewell exercises were held for them. Their names appeared in last week's Sentinel. We see by the Anderson Daily Mail that Dr. D. W. Daniel, professor of English at Clemson College, is being urged to enter the race for congress from this district, and he is seriously considering making the race. There is just as much reason in going into a drug store and asking the drug gist to give you a five-cent glass of so da water as there is in going into a newspaper office and asking the editor to give you a copy of his paper. Mrs. J. C. Jennings sustained a se verely sprained ankle when she fell dlown the back steps of her home Mon day morning. As a result she is confin edl to her knd and it is fear-ed that it will be several wveeks before she will be able to get out again. Mr. Ben G. Field was a few days ago calling for "chevolet" cloth in a dry goods. store. A lady friend overhear ing his request, quietly asked him, "Beg your pardon, but do you not mean 'cheviot?' See Mickie in this paper every week and be friends with him. Mr. and Mrs. Pink Gossett, of Atlan ta, spent a part of their honeymoon in Pickens last week with her grand-par ents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Hester. Be fore her marriage Mrs. Gossett was Miss Mae Gresham and is well-known in Pickens where she has often visited. Mr. Gossett is an engineer on the South ern Railway. ___ Sam Terry and Irene Bowen, two prominent colored people of Pickens, were married in the colored Methodist church of Pickens last Wednesday night, R1ev. .John C. Gibbes performing the ceremony. Sam came to Pickens from Williameton several months ago and~ is associated with his brother John Terry in the pressing club. The bride is a daughter of the late Bill IBowen. The meeting of the Pickens Democra tic club was well attended at the court house Saturday. C. E. Robinson was elected president and M. d. Smith vice-president and N. A. Christopher secretary and treasurer. Capt. J. T. Tloc r was elected a member of the coun r executive committee and twenty eight delegates were elected to the counit~y convention. A marriage which was quite a sur prise to friends andl relatives of the bride in Pickens occurred in Charlotte, N. C., Monday afternoon wvhen Miss Corinne Robertson became the bride of Mr. Harry Allison. The bride is wvell known and popular in Pickens, where she has spent much time. She is a sis ter of Mrs. TP. R. Allen and Mrs. Guy McFall and a charming young lady. The bridegroom has been a studlent at Charlotte. He is a native of Philadel phia, where they have gone to make their home, carrying with them best wishes of hosts of friends.
