ON GUARD
At this. time of the year people feel
weak, tired, listless, their blood is thin,
they have lived indoors and perhaps
expended all their mental and bodily
energy and they want to know how to
renew their energy and stamina, over
come headaches and backaches, have
clear eyes, a smooth, ruddy skin, and
feel the exhilaration of real good health
tingling thru their body. Good, pure,
rich, red blood is the best insurance
against ills of all kinds. Almost all
diseases come from impure and impov
erished blood. It is to be noticed in the
pale or pimply face, the tired, haggard
appearance or the listless manner.
Drink hot water a half hour before
meals, and for a vegetable tonic there's
nothing better than Dr. Pierce's Golden
Medical 1iscovery, the old-fashioned
herbal remedy, which has had such a
tine reputation for lifty years. It con
tains no alcohol or narcotics. It Is
ztade from Golden Seal root, Blood
root, Oregon grape root, Queen's root
Black Cherry bark, extracted with gly
cerine and made into tablets and liquid.
Tablets sixty cents, at most drug stores.
In order to insure pure blood and to
build up the system try this tonic
known as Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical
Discovery. Get it now I

THE RED CROSS NURSES OF EUROPE
ARE GIVING TOASTED
CIGARETTES TO THE BOYS
To anyone who doesn't know of the
wonderful advances that have been made
in the preparation of smoking tobaccos
in the last few years it may sound strange
to speak of toasted cigarettes,
Strictly speaking, we should say ciga
rettes made of toasted tobacco; the smok
ers of this country will recognize it more
readily by its trade name, "LUCKY
STRIKE "-the toasted cigarette.
The American Tobacco Company are
producing millions of these toasted ciga
rettes and these arc being bought in
enormous quantities through the various
tobacco funds conducted by the news
papers of the country and forwarded
through the Red Cross Society to the boys
in France.
This new process of treating tobacco
not only improves the flavor of the tobacco
but it seals in this flavor and makes
the cigarettes keep better. .
The Red Cross nurse is always glad to
have a cigarette for the wounded soldier,
as, in most instances, that is the first
thing asked for. -Adv.

hest For 20 Years
and does more than any laxative on the
market today. The thousands of letters
from users have convinced me I was right,
and that tho user of Nature's Rsmsp as
family medicine, even though he may have
used it for twenty-five years, never has
to Increase the dose.
My knowledge of medicine and the re.
silts of its use in my own family and
among my friends, before I over offered it
for salo, caused me to have great faith in
Nature'o Remedy from the very first.
And now as I find myself nearing the age
when I must bow to the inevitable and go
to another life, my greatest pleasure is to
sit each day and read tho lotters that each
mail briers from people as old or older
than I, who tell of having used Natme's
Hamedy for ton, fifteen and twenty year
and bow they and their children an
grandchildren have boon benefited by it.
It to a consoling thought, my friends, for
a man or mry ago to feel that aside from
his own success, one has done something
for his follow man. My greatest satisfac
tion, my greatest, happonss today, is the,
knowledgo that toniht more than one

happier people for it. I hope you wail

Their Medicine C
IT is characteristic of
folks after they pans the allotted
"threo score years and ten," to look
back over tho days that are gone
and thoughtfully live them over.
I find myself, at seventy-one, frequently
drifting back a quarter of a century, when
I oo myself in the littlo drug storo I owned
at Dolivar, Mo., making and selling a
vegetable compound to my friends and
customers-what was then known or y as
Dr. Lewis' Medicine for Stomach, Liver
and Bowel Complaints.
For many years whilo I was perfecting my
formula I studied and investigated the
laxatives and cathartics on the market and
became convinced that their main fait
was not that they did not act on the bowels
but that their action was too violent and
drastic, and upset the system of the user;
which was due to the fact that they were
not thorough enough in their action, some
simply acting on the upper or small intes
tines, while others would act only on the
lower or large intestines, and that they
almost invariably produced a habit ro
quiring augmented doses.
I believed that a preparation to produce
the best effect must first tone the liver,
then act on the stomach and outire alimen
tary system. If this was accomplished, the
medicine would produce a mild, but
thorough elimination of the waste without
the usual sickening sensations, and make
the user feel bottor at onco.
After experimenting with hundreds of
different compounds, I at last perfected the
formula that is now known as Natut'1
Remedy, which I truly believe goes further
Its Effect.
