Local oflicers captured three army deserters from Chicamauga last week. One was caught in Pickens and two near the toll gate, headed toward North Carolina. There were 6,932 bales of cotton, counting round as half bales, ginned in Pickens county, from the crop of 1917 prior to November 1, 1917, as compared with 8,656 bales ginned to November 1, 1916. We regret to chronicle the sad death of little Dee, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Burroughs, who died Sunday night of typhoid fever. Another child in this family has been seriously sick, but we are glad to hear is improv ing. Mrs. J. D.
