Mrs. Julia Ann Keith .
On last Tuesday, July 17, 1917, the e
church bell of Oolenoy tolled the funeral;;
knell of Mrs. Julia Ann Robinson Keith '*
This was very sad, indeed, yet not i
the least unexpected, as she had been
suffering for about one year with a
cancer on the right side of her face.
Shortly after its appearance, upon the
recommendation of several phosicians,
she was carried to a Greenville hospital
for an operation, which was performed t
by 1)r. Mauldin. Apparently this dla
"o good, as she constantly grew worse
until death caine to her relief about 9
o'clock Monday evening.
There is no doubt in the minds of
those who knew her but that now she is
joy fully Praising Jesus her Saviour,
whom she professed to serve for over
half a century, having joined Peters
Creek Baptist church 52 years ago and
being baptized by the Rev. Tom Looper
In .1anuary, 18 she was married to
J. 1). M. Keith, a young soldier who had
seen service in the Civil Var. Unto
this. union were born the following I
children. in the order named, all of
whom are living and have families of
their own, viz: Mesdames Elizabeth
:'1 ;a .lunes, farmers' wives of this
section; Joseph 11. and S. Forrest Keith,
butsiness men of Greenville; Thomnas J.
and (;rover M1. Keith, farmers of this
section, and G. Earle Keith, principal
of Town Creek school. Besides her
children she leaves her aged husband,
one brother, ,1. P. Robinson of Dacus
ville, (the other brother, Silas F. Rob
inson, having preceded her to the grave
two years and two days) and, numerous
friends and relatives to mourn her death.
The funeral sermon was delivered by
her pastor, Rev. V. C. Seaborn, after
which her body was laid away in the
Oolenoy cemetery.
11er neighbors say she would never
tire in visiting the sick and attending
her church services. Oolenoy church
was the last place she visited.
1lere's assurance that her dear ones
have the sympathy and an interest in
the prayers of the entire community
during these trying hours. But it won't
he long till Jesus calls you, too. J. D. V.
Death of Rev. Marvel L. Jones
The announcement of the death of
Rev. M. I. Jones will be received with
sorrow by his many friends and relatives.
lie (lied at the home of his son, J. B.
Jones, near Easley, on the 19th instant
and his body was laid away in the cem
etery at (;rillin church the day follow
ing, where it will rest until the great
resurrection morning. The funeral was
conducted at the church by Rev. Fulton
Childress. He is survived by three
sons, John H. Jones and J. Butler Jones
of this county and Elijah Jones of Green
ville county, and one daughter who lives
in North Carolina. He is also survived
by one brother and sister, W. M. Jones
and Mrs. Clarrissa Looper, of this
county. lie was 68 years old. For
some years he lived in Transylvania
county, N. C., but after the death of
his wvife two or three years ago he came
back to this county and since that time
his health has been gradually failing
until tile end came.
lie was known by many, as he has
plreached in many churches of the Bap
tist denomination in this and Transyl
vania county, having sonme years ago
been missionary of the Twelve Mile
association.
ruly a good man has gone. If there
was a Christian on earth it was M. L.
Jones. When lie was reviled he reviled
not again. If he was smitten on one
chleek lhe would turn the other. He
sull'ered persecution and hardships un..
complainingly.
Truly he could say as (lid Paul, "I
have fought a good light, I have fin
ished my course, I have kept the faith;"
hence there is a crown of righteous
ness awaiting him up there where he
hams gone.
May all who read this so live as to,
make these lines a closing emblem of
the lives livedl here as he didl:
"And when these earthly years are past
andl gone,
Temp; ta tion's hattle fought, the victory
wvon,
i''rom heaven shall gently come this
message down,
They that have borne the cross shall
