State of South Carolina, Pickens County. ELIAS DAY, Clerk. Red Cross Lawn Fete 1-,verybody is going to bring their children, their grandchildren's children and all their relatives-and iothers-in law. We can't afford to miss the Red Cross lawn fete that is going to be given back of the court house on the Fourth of July, just as soon as it gets dark enough for the Japanese lanterns to show. There is going to be so much fun and ice cream and real fortune telling, games, fish pond, and any kind of "christian" dIrink you want. Since it's war times nothing will be over 5 and 10 cents except our husbands and sweet hearts We won't let anyone have them but our Uncle Sam. The Pickens Bank a,, Il it Pe lel ,.. Anderson Notes. of Interest in Pickens Editor Pickens Sentinel: Allow me space for a few dots from Anderson, the banner Red Cross con tributing county of the South. Ander son was asked for $15,000 and she re sponded with $27,000, raising $15,000 of it in one day. On the court house square one afternoon last week contri butions of 25 cents each was asked of a irowd which had gathered for the pur pose of buying a flag to put orx the court house. In about three minutes $25 was raised and Old Glory is flying this week fromn the flagpole on the Anderson .ounty court house. Married, in Anderson, at the Orrville Methodist church, Tuesday evening, June 26, Miss Mattie B. Johnson to Mr. 1. H. Pender of Garnett, S. C., Rev. L. \V. Johnson, father of the bride, of liciating. Mrs.' Pender will be pleas antly remembered in Pickens, having taught in several schools of the county while her father was in charge of the North Pickens circuit. Mr. Pender is a merchant of Garnett, where they will make their home. Those from Pickens attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Carson, iessrs. Roy Gaines and Van Clayton of Central. Miss Nettie Newton, who has been attending the Piedpont Normal school, has been quite sicle the past week. 11. W. Iliott and Miss Brucie Ellison of Eusley, Misses Elva Stewart, Sadie Nealy and Nettie Newton of Pickens and.Miss Alma Clayton of Liberty are among'the teachers from Pickens county attending the Piedmont Normal school. in session at Anderson college. Mrs. N. M. Craig of Pickens spent last week with her daughter, Mrs.F.E. Alexandei' of Anderson. Mrs. Craig went from here to Walhalla, where she will visit Dr. and Mrs. Billy Craig be fore returning to Piewds. Ye scribe had the pleasurt one (lay last week of meeting up with Rev. S.B. White, who'v.ps in charge of the North Pickens ireu. kst yeav- itisow lo cated at Blackstock,. where he is pastor of a town and two country churlh'es He spoke very pleasantly of his former flock in Pickens county. Three of Pickens' prominent young business men, H. Earle Seaborn, J. Hagood Bruce and Wayne F. Mauldin, were visitors in Anderson last Ionday. It mny he of interest to fari of Pickens to know that the forwai t ton crop in this county is just aboit like that in Pickens- a very poor stand. Two blooms were reported in the Daily Mail this week. The young cotton which was planted last is doing fine. It is regular and an average crop is ex pected in this county. H. W. H. Anderson, June 30. Mrs. M. L. Hamilton of Pickens left this week for Albany, Oregon, where she will visit her son, Robert Hamilton, who has been a resident of that state many years. He is remembered as one of Pickens county's most sterling and untarnished young men. Miss Hamil ton is accompanied by Miss May Mc Clanahan of Liberty, who will attend the National Educational Association at Portland. Miss McClanahan for four years has been a member of the Greer graded school faculty, and she will re turn in time to resume work therd in Septemnber.
