Mrs. J. M. Stewart visited her sister, Mrs. Floyd, in Greenville last week. Mrs. Bruce Hagood of Easley spent Monday in Pickens with relatives. Misses Florence Bowen and Vesta Ashmore spent Monday in Greenville. The sale conducted by the Baptist Ladies' Aid society last week was a great success, the proceeds amounting to $67. Dr. A. A. Odom, the well-known Greenville optician, will be at the Keo wee Pharmacy in Pickens next Friday, April 13. The Parent-Teachers' association will hold a meeting at the school house Wednesday afternoon, April 11, at 3 o'clock. The local W. C. T. U. will meet Thursday afternoon of this week at 3:30 o'clock with Mrs. T. R. Allen. All members urged to attend. The collection for the anti-saloon league, at the Methodist church the first Sunday, was $256.30, instead of $56.30 as stated last week. The ladies of Grace M. E. church will conduct a spring sale in Pickens, April 20. They will also serve dinner at the same time. Everybody invited. County Demonstration Agent T. A. Bowen will take pleasure in assisting any of the farmers of the county in procuring Soy and Velvet beans for planting. The Entre Nous club met last Wed nesday afternoon with Mrs. J. L. Val ley and a most delightful afternoon was spent. Fruit salad, tea and wafers were served. Rev. Henry Stokes, pastor of the Clinton Methodist church, will preach at the Pickens Methodist church next Sunday morning at 11.15 o'clock and at night at 8 o'clock. Everybody invited. At a meeting of the newly elected city fathers of Pickens, held Tuesday night of last week, the new mayor and coun cilmen were sworn in, and Ernest Alex ander was elected mayor pro tem and city clerk. H. A. Nealey was re-elected chief of police. Rev. D. M. Ramsay will preach at Montvale school house the fourth Sun (lay afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Dr. Ramsay is one of the leading Baptist ministers of the South and every one who has the opportunity should hear him. Pickens chapter U. D. C. will meet -next Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the school house. This will be an im portant meeting and all members are urged to attend. Oflicers will be elect ed. All who have not paid their dues are asked to attend this meeting pre paredI to pay them. Corporal Reuben W. McClanahan, who has just returned from the Mexican camp~aign with the 17th Infantry of the U. S. regular army, has been on a few (lays' visit to his pan-ents near Liberty. IHe returned Monday to his duty at Fort !McPherson, wvhere his company is nowv stationed. In the Pickens county girls' expres sion contest held at Easley Friday night, first place was awarded to Lois Evatt of Easley, second place to Clara Bal longer ot Central, and third place to Valeria Posey of Liberty. Other speak ers wvho did wvell were Evelyn Farr, Reunion; Ollie Mae Durham, Six Mile; Annie Gravley, Pickens; Lola Baker, Norris; Nannie Ponder, Dacusville. An unusually large crowd attended the con test. 'The Caveny Company will be the next lyceum attraction for Pickens and will be at the school house next Tuesday night, April 17. This will be the last lyceum number for Pickens thiis season, as the attractions are so late getting here the local promotors have cancelled all other engagements. Those who have paid for season tickets wvill get al fair refund. Mrs. Dora Dee Walker, assistant home demonstration agent, will visit1 Pickons county A pril 13 and 14.
